No mow May appears to work. Verge in front of our house in the Peak District has a new flowering plant a common spotted orchid. Stopped mowing two years ago. Let’s hope the numbers increase in the coming years.

Unveiling the contribution of particle-associated non-cyanobacterial diazotrophs to N2 fixation in the upper mesopelagic North Pacific Gyre - Communications Biology We find a diverse and active particle-associated non-cyanobacterial diazotroph community in the mesopelagic zone of the North Pacific Gyre, suggesting a significant contribution to pelagic nitrogen fi...

I feel your pain. I did mine part time, remotely. Took me 6 years. Initially I wanted to be finished before I was 30. By the end I just wanted to still be in my 30’s.
Hang in there you will be fine.

There is a fourth book. The age of extremes. It is excellent as the others were. Enjoy when you do read it.

Life is about the opportunities you are given and how you use them. This bursary scheme is a brilliant way in which a relatively small amount of money can make a difference in someone’s life. Thank you WestP&I

Inefficient transfer of diatoms through the subpolar Southern Ocean twilight zone - Nature Geoscience Diatom skeletons largely remain near the surface of the subpolar Southern Ocean following diatom bloom events, suggesting that they do not play as big a role in the downward flux of organic matter as ...

🌊

Delighted to see this new paper led by PhD student Jack Williams out in Nature Geoscience - it’s been a fun journey bringing two project datasets together (COMICS and CUSTARD) to show that diatoms are not always as efficient at transferring carbon as we thought! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

After 4 years of going to Tromso in November (project advisory board) and never seeing the aurora. A few weeks ago I went outside my house in the peaks to see this. Amazing.

Yes I agree with the latest comment. This is Himalayan Balsam. It is indeed a very invasive species in the U.K. multiple environmental impacts from this species. Not least of all the fact it pulls bees away from natural species and they therefore don’t get pollinated.

Just joined from the other place. Like many others I found the other place seemed to filled with anti-science and conspiracy driven tweets. Looking forward to finding old friends on here.
