I am interested in your next one! I’m ALSO going to be in Antarctic on those dates, incidentally.

Animation looks downward at the North Pole (left; 🌙) and South Pole (right; ☀️) over a 24-hour period.
Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars or Trek), LOTR, Marvel, Disney Animated, or Pixar.
"After nearly 40 years, the Arctic Research Consortium of the United States, or ARCUS, will close September 30."
"The Arctic Research Consortium of the United States funded programs that aided Indigenous communities and tracked melting sea ice, among dozens of initiatives."
"To raise sunflower stars in captivity and release them to the Pacific, however, scientists must first learn how to keep stars from dying. And for that, they must know what’s killing them in the first place."

Very proud of how well the Elbows Up Canada Rally on Sunday went. OPP says there were 1000 people there at one point! Ready to get going on organizing the next one 💪 #ElbowsUpCanada
The horse I ride is named Whiopa, and I can’t figure out the origins of such a name. Anyone here know if Whiopa is a name, a place, a word? Maybe a different spelling? The search engines haven’t been helpful.
She’s a registered Canadian Horse, if that is helpful.
*turn it off
I feel so privileged to get such clear night skies out where I live. I went for a post-sunset snowshoe in the dark wood nearby, and while a headlamp was necessary to see the trail, I couldn’t help but turn and off and let me know yes adjust to the light of the night
Don't drown to prove you know the tide is rising
🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.
Excited to read it Kelly! How different is the story here from the one on Slipshine?
If you see this, quote with a photo of a bridge from your gallery

Will never get over how beautiful the peninsula is #Antarctica
Great to see this open access summary about climate tipping points in #antarctica
Any cool new geological or paleo research recently in Antarctica or from the sub-Antarctic islands?
*blow my guests’ mind
Missing word, typical hahaha
More krill fishing and no new protected areas for Antarctic seas after latest talks https://buff.ly/40hKV2H 🦑🌎🧪
About to head down to #Antarctica in a week. What new research would my guests minds?
This is an astonishing statistic, which most people don’t appreciate.
When we phase out fossil fuels, we can eliminate 40% of international shipping along with it.
It’s dangerous to go alone. Take this.
Did you know... there are freshwater jellyfish?
I find them in many lakes I study. Too small to sting us, they live as polyps on the bottom, producing medusae ("jellyfish") when conditions are right. My photos aren't great, so enjoy this one by Jan Hamrsky, www.lifeinfreshwater.net.
Can I be added please? I promise to add more ocean content!
The edit to make here is I’ve moved to the Ottawa region, but I do miss Nova Scotia with all my heart…
So seeing both these networks working together 4 years later really chokes me up. Very proud of the continuing work of the international APECS network and the exponential growth of the global ECOP network!! 2/2
When I started ECOP Canada (ECOP=Early Career Ocean Professionals), the first people we spoke to was the Canadian APECS team, to ask about what makes a good early-career professional network. The reason for this is I gained a lot of professional development thru APECS as a Polar Professional. 1/2
I’ve joined the local volunteer Search and Rescue group, and we had a month long training program before being cleared for duty. Honestly, a lot of fun! We completed a full simulation last Saturday and found our missing hunter! 🌲👷♀️
