It was great to meet with staff at Rebecca Cheetham’s nursery school and children’s centre recently.

I was also lucky to speak to some parents and carers on my visit and hear about the incredible support that staff provide to families with young children.

Before recess and just before the end of term, year 7 students from Oasis Academy Silvertown came into Parliament. It was really good to hear their questions and talk about the things that matter to them.

It may be summer recess but we’re still working hard. Me and the team will continue to help wherever we can so don’t hesitate to reach out.

I am very sad to hear of the death of my friend Cllr Neil Wilson. It won’t be the same without him around, I shall miss him.

I visited the Cancer Research superstore in Beckton.

They need more donations of furniture so if you have anything in good condition consider donating instead of throwing away.

They also need more volunteers! Having met the team I would encourage anyone to join them.

I have joined over 200 MPs from across Parliament and signed a letter to the Prime Minister & Foreign Secretary urging them to recognise Palestine as a state now.

The Minister and I saw the positive impact early years’ language interventions were having on the students at Curwen Primary School.

I asked that the Government look at communities like ours, where many parents face the additional challenges of housing and economic hardship.

I recently spoke about the Photo Reconnaissance Unit of the RAF, brave pilots and navigators who were the men behind the photos that we see in our history books, museums and films.

This week, I met with the Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev on his visit to London with members of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Bulgaria.

We discussed a range of issues including trade, industry and increased tourism between our two countries.

Our cadet forces offer lots of opportunities for young people. I caught up with the two local Army Cadets detachments for East Ham and West Ham at a community event recently.

I asked whether colleagues would join me in congratulating Richard House Hospice in West Beckton on their 25th year of supporting children and their families through what is often the most difficult time in their lives.

The rights and protections that we benefit from today were not won without a struggle and we must not forget that often that struggle was led by brave working class women who were up against the prejudices of their class, the circumstances of their poverty and the discrimination of their gender.

Yesterday, I visited the new development in Silvertown Quays to see the progress. It was great to see homes and sites for new businesses being built as part of the regeneration of this bit of the docks.

The Father Goose Community centre has been named after the St Luke’s parish priest from 1933-1978.

It was good to meet current Vicar, Reverend Amy this weekend and talk about plans for St Luke’s 150th birthday celebrations later this year.

Lovely summer fun day in Keir Hardie Recreation Ground today celebrating Newham’s 60th anniversary.

The sun was shining, lots of local community groups and plenty of local people enjoying the park, the sunshine, the food and the fun.

Building on the legacy of Sure Start, the Government is creating up to 1,000 Best Start Family Hubs across England.

Last week I caught up with the Newham Family Hub team and heard about their work and plans.

I joined Speech & Language UK at Curwen Primary in Plaistow to see Early Talk Boost in action and the impact the programme has had on children.

Good to talk to staff and parents and welcome Education Minister Stephen Morgan and outline the challenges we face locally and the great work being done.

Today is the the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide, where over 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were murdered.

We remember all those who were killed and their families and we honour the survivors.

Last week I caught up with the Deputy Prime Minister to discuss issues important to West Ham & Beckton including housing, transport and support for local services.

I asked again about medical facilities in Gaza that have suffered repeated damage.

It is vital that the few functioning hospitals stay open. Their loss would be an indictment of the disregard for the health and lives of the Palestinian people.
