So this is what was going on this morning. Union Canal path between Redhall Park turnoff and Kingsknowe Station will be closed each day for the next couple of weeks from 8am - 4.30pm. Cutting back ash trees. Diversion in place. No notice of this in advance 👎🏼 @spokes.org.uk @sw20.info @edi.bike

Some impressive Combined Sewer Overflow totals along the Water of Leith. Spylaw House CSO winning with 8 hours of discharge and Redford/Colinton CSO with 4 hours of discharge. Currie and Balerno CSOs seeing some action too. Why are the CSOs in Colinton discharging so regularly & for so long?

Including a presentation on the proposed Longstone Link bridge project on the formers Booker site from the council officer in charge, this is the agenda for our next meeting on 13/10/25. All welcome.

During a ‘moderate’ spell of rain on 03/09/25 the unmonitored Dovecot CSO began emitting ‘screened water’ from the sewer into the Water of Leith. Concerning to see sewer debris left behind & raises questions about exactly what is going into our local river when these CSOs do their job?

It began as an idea a good while back at one of our meetings, after which we sought a community grant from @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social , partnered with @sw20.info with great support from Parkrun & their Ambassadors.

It seems the West and North ETRO’s were added into the meeting papers with East ones at yesterday’s TRO sub committee meeting. This means the schemes progressed first as ‘Spaces for People’ and then as ‘Traveling Safely’ will now be made permanent across the city.

Capacity appears woeful if these are discharging every time there is moderate rain. Not good enough.

Concerning to see people are accessing the former Longstone Inn. Also very concerning to hear the services are ‘allegedly’ still on. We raised these issues with @edinburghcouncil.bsky.social officers previously via @rosssmckenzie.bsky.social vm.tiktok.com/ZNdVK9dhm/

More Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) into the Water of Leith today from the ones that have monitoring kit installed. Sewer capacity appears to be easily overwhelmed locally which is concerning.

Dovecot Park Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) working well today. This one’s not monitored yet. A powered screen is removing sanitary products, wipes, nappies and other stuff that should not go down the toilet. What enters the Water of Leith is a dilution of sewer particulate stuff with rainwater.

What impact does this have on people who want to or have to mainly walk, wheel, or cycle?

Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) monitoring triggered overnight with discharges into the Murray Burn & discharges at two sites in Colinton into the Water of Leith. Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) kit is due to be installed on a CSO next to Sainsbury on 10/09/25. @drscottarthurmp.bsky.social

In partnership with Longstone Community Council, #Edinburgh’s newest Junior #Parkrun will start next Sunday after a successful trial run.

Dissapointing to see the installation of the new crossing delayed yet again. Was supported to be Sepetember this year but has now been pushed out to January 2026. 👎 We will seek an explanation as to why, again.
