an important reminder that "hacking" rarely involves typing real fast as green text scrolls by and mostly involves asking people for their login info in increasingly sophisticated ways
human psychology is a lot easier to manipulate than code, be very careful with anyone asking for credentials

Date: March 7, 2026 Source: Northwestern University Summary: A sweeping new study from Northwestern University reveals that scientific fraud is no longer just the work of a few rogue researchersβit has evolved into a global, organized enterprise. By analyzing massive datasets of publications, retractions, and editorial records, researchers uncovered networks involving βpaper mills,β brokers, and compromised journals that systematically produce and sell fake research, authorship slots, and citations. It's INTERNATIONAL Women's Day! and being an international woman, it is appropriate for me to recommend this audio book I made a few years ago with my friend, Megan Koester (@bornferal).It will tell you A LOT about how civilization has treated women since way back.

Marbled end papers on ledgers weren't only beautiful--they also prevented fraud.
Nefarious bookkeepers couldn't remove pages without messing up the pattern, alerting employers to their misdeed.
Every April the rural fields, roadsides, and public areas in Texas bloom with beautiful bluebonnets, transforming quiet landscapes into rivers of blue. In Where the Wildflowers Are, a hillside bursts with blossoms beside a peaceful country road. A white fence stretches down the hill like a ribbon, creating a graceful leading line, while the road opposite follows the same path. Together they guide the viewer through the scene. With a playful nod to imagination, the title invites us to wander where the wildflowers grow.

These cups, known as Kamares Ware, are from Phaistos, Crete. They were made in palace workshops, c. 1800-1700 BC. The cups range in shape and size from conic and cylindrical cups (top and middle shelves) to hemispherical and carinated shaped cups (bottom shelf). They are decorated with multi-coloured geometric motifs; with spirals and swirls painted in red and white pigment on black.
Sipping my coffee βοΈ and thinking about these marvellous Minoan cups!
They look so modern itβs incredible to think they were made during the Bronze Age some 3,800 years ago!
