I'm about halfway through One Battle After Another and it's kind of shocking how little it gives a shit about the politics it mostly uses as a weird fantasy forest for its characters to bounce around in

I’m gonna say it, I think it’s fucking cowardly a director who keeps winning all the awards this year with a movie that uses imagery of immigrant detention and militarized police etc has yet to even mention what’s going on in America in all his speeches. But I do see Ryan Coogler speak on Minnesota.

If US democracy was functional, this would have led to an immediate impeachment and removal from office.

An image of a human-shaped plant, printed in a book published in Germany 1668. More indormation in the next post.

Entering the weekend like the plant-people did back in 1668: focused, a bit anxious, and however still moving. #skystorians

They know that many people in the US will accept the killing of civilians overseas but will draw the line at high gas prices.

Libraries are among the few public institutions that represent the kind of world we want to live in. They must be fought for.

A man in a suit stands speaking, with text criticizing Mayor Mamdani for not honoring his commitment to allocate 0.5% of the city expense budget to NYC public libraries in his preliminary budget. Visit NYC PLAN.ORG for more information

The bottom line is that NYC Public Libraries need increased and most importantly STABLE funding annually. Mayor Mamdani promised both and this preliminary budget is a BROKEN PROMISE. There’s time for him to rectify this. NYC library patrons expect that he will.

Travelled from Philly and paid full price to see this revival, which was money well spent! (It helps that Ragtime is one of my fave musicals anyway)

And digitization is hardly a mechanically automatic process. Primary source materials can contain so much more information pertaining to the circumstances of their creation than can be gleaned from a scan of the “characters.” Archives contain *artifacts.*

"No purity tests"

Nah, if you can't support human rights for all people, and yes that includes trans people, you not only shouldn't get to run for office, you shouldn't be speaking at all until you get your heart fixed

If it's political to honor war dead, presumably there's an opposing political position, which I suppose is that they do not deserve to be remembered? So if you die in a war rather than some other way, to mourn you is controversial? I really hate this.

Library warming centers strained workers and left people without help for complex issues, staff say Library workers and volunteers say people in mental-health crises, struggling with substance-abuse issues, and requiring wound care are coming to the warming centers and they have no backup.

The Parker administration is failing so many of our most vulnerable neighbors while hanging our overworked, underpaid library workers out to dry www.inquirer.com/news/philade...

The current extreme weather is clearly demonstrating that Philadelphia is not climate resilient, nor are we anywhere close to properly funding public services in this city. Our infrastructure, our libraries, our schools….All desperately need more attention and help from city leaders. Gift link:

I was terrible at all the maths and felt so dumb when I was a high schooler in the 90s! I'm a visual learner and geometry did not click for me until I took patternmaking in undergrad as part of my fashion degree.
