The execution started just after midnight CST and he was pronounced dead at 12:44 a.m. CST.

His legal team has now filed for rehearing by the full 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

"His composition and filing of that affidavit undercuts an assertion of incompetency to pursue a habeas petition. We seriously question whether Corcoran’s wife and attorneys have proved that he is incompetent to litigate himself. If not, next-friend status is not proper for him."

A three member U.S. Court of Appeals panel has denied Joseph Corcoran's request to stay his execution.
