Will sitemaps be the standard resource list?
How will the AI community avoid sites that are charging for spam content?

If you control your own site, you do. If your creations are hosted by a platform or publisher, they can & depending on your contract may share revenue with you.

Pretty cool that @timbl.bsky.social years ago built the 402 status code into the web, and it’s now prime to empower creators

It doesn’t solve everything about AI but it a tool that implements the plumbing for a web where “if your work is used, you get paid”.

AI agents autonomously pay to access
Paywalls content
Micro-services

When an AI taps into a song, image, video, or text on a site that uses x402, a small payment is required.

402 has been largely ignored, people share their web content freely or utilize robust pay to access login systems. However with AI companies scrapping creators works from the live web 402 may soon be utilized. This month Coinbase announced x402.org

When Sir Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web, he introduced simple numeric codes to describe what was happening with each request. You might be familiar with:
200 “OK”
404 “Not Found”

Among those early web codes was 402, “Payment Required”
