Lunar craws into bed next to squall and looks at his face.

Lunar, thinking: who are you, my beautiful Squall. I do enjoy a good mystery. And, having a partner could be… a nice change.

Lunar sighs. Thinking: but, he’s probably going to find his own life soon anyways. (Side eye) or this is some elaborate scheme to kill me and take my rover. Lunar looks a Squall with a devilish smile before sitting up suddenly, thinking: the moon. Almost forgot.

Lunar sitting in driver’s seat looking at the bunny bobble head. Lunar: what have I gotten myself into? Bunny (not really talking, it’s just lunar talking to himself): “you’re getting reckless in your old age.” Lunar: who’re you calling old. I’m still plenty young for pretty mysteries.

Lunar pulls his knees to his chest. He smiles and blushes. L: I can’t remember the last time I felt this excited about something. I’ve earned a little excitement, haven’t I? (Leans into bunny) Besides, if he’s dangerous it’s better he’s here with me than anywhere else.

L: and if he’s not, he needs my help. It’s only practical. (Blushes again) I can’t believe I gave him a name. I’m not sure he understands how intimate that is. The knowledge he has and doesn’t have… it’s fascinating. He’s fascinating. (Leans forward and rubs his hair aggressively) Aaaahhhh—

Lunar: (sits up with messy hair) I feel like a fool—oh! Here we are! (Covers mouth with hand and looks to bunny. Leans in to speak with bunny more quietly.) I should probably stop this.

Squall: No. Not anymore. I feel good. I really think this is where I’m supposed to be. With you, I mean. Lunar: How can you be so sure? Squall smiles and lunar blushes slightly.

Squall: I just am. Lunar: alright then. Lunar begins to walk away. Squall: Are you afraid?

Lunar: I’m not afraid of anything. Squall: (giggling) of course not. Goodnight, Lunar. Lunar: Goodnight, squall. Lunar turns out the light before heading to the cab of the rover.

Lunar extends the sofa into a bed. Squall: Oh, convenient. Lunar: It is that. I often don’t bother to pull it out, but for two people I think it’s necessary.

Squall: (gets into bed) I get to sleep here with you? Lunar: I-if you don’t mind. (Blushing, carrying a blanket) There really isn’t anywhere else. But, I could sleep in the cab—I do that sometimes anyway— Squall: No, please stay here with me. I don’t want to sleep alone. Lunar: of course.

Lunar covers Squall with the blanket and begins to walk away. Squall: aren’t you…

Lunar: I will shortly. There’s a good spot for parking not too far off. It’s dangerous to leave the Rover on autodrive through the night. Squall: okay. Lunar: you’re not afraid? Squall: (crooked smile) of what? Sleep? You? Lunar: well. Anything. After what you’ve been through, isn’t it scary?

L: Unexpected and powerful, and a bit mysterious. S: They’re also pretty dangerous, aren’t they? L: Only if you’re unprepared. S: If they’re unexpected how do you prepare?

L: You prepare yourself for anything, of course. S: Are you prepared for me, Lunar? L: Absolutely. S: (Giggles) alright. I love it. Thank you. L: (big smile) Thank you for giving me the honor.

L: But, it is your choice; lack of memory does not negate your right to choose what you do with your life. If you wish to end our search after Anguin, then that’s that. MB: Really? L: Of course. I only wish to help you. It’s not my place to tell you what to do. If you want to be an exorcist, who am I to say otherwise. You should probably learn more about what an exorcist does before making your decision, but I can help with that. And, if you do become one one day, I’d be happy to have you as my partner.

L: (Blushes, looks away). Ahem. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We might find you have a whole family in anguin. You might get your memory back. MB: Right. L: What should I call you? Until we find out who you are, I mean.

MB: I dunno. What would you like to call me? L: You want me to give you a name? (Blushes) MB: Sure. You’re the one that’ll be saying it, after all. L: Well. Let’s see. Forgive me, I’ve never done this before.

L: (red face, arms crossed, thinking deeply). Okay. I’d like to call you Squall. Squall: As in crying? L: (Giggles) No. As in a sudden, strong storm, or wind.

L: Not really. MB: I don’t mean like everything is set in stone. But, like… opportunity, you know? L: I suppose. MB: (scoots closer) It feels right to be here with you. Really right. Like fate. I don’t want to…

MB: waste this opportunity, you know? I want… well. (Rubs back of head) Don’t you feel it too? L: I feel… (blushes, hides face with hair) Something. I guess. If this is what you wish.

L: But, I’m sure you have a life already that you’d like to get back to if you remembered. MB: Yeah, doubt it. L: What is it? Do you remember something? MB: No. It’s nothing. I promise I won’t be a burden. I can be a good exorcist too, I know it.

MB: I helped you back there, didn’t I? I mean, I don’t know what I did, but it helped, right? L: It did. I don’t know what you did or how you did it either, but I might not have been able to save her without whatever it was. If that wasn’t an anomaly, you could be a very good exorcist indeed. MB: See what I mean? How is that not fate? L: That is… MB: (worried) Do I make you uncomfortable? L: Not at all! I’m just not sure it’s the right thing to do.

MB: So, if nobody knows me there, we’re not likely to find anyone. Right? I mean, those villagers clearly didn’t know me. (Finishes drinking soup out of bowl) L: You had to come from somewhere. With the proper gear, we can come back and— MB: If they don’t know me, I don’t want to keep looking. L: (looks shocked) What? I don’t—

MB: you think I could be an exorcist like you? With you? (Smiles hopefully) L: Oh! I… I’ve always worked alone. And you’d have to be certified and approved by the board. There’s training—

MB: (Looks sad) L: You really want to work with me? Travel with me, in this cramped up rover? S: It’s cozy. L: We only just met. How could you want that?

MB: Well. (Looks to side, thinking) You’re the only person I’ve met. L: (smiles) I don’t think that’s a good reason. S: (silently looks at lunar for a moment) Do you believe in fate?

Lunar and the mystery boy are eating on the couch. Mystery boy: it’s really good, thank you. I was starving. Lunar smiles.

Mystery boy: I’m so lucky I ran into you when I did. Instead of, you know, dying in the woods or something. Lunar: I’d say being in your situation to begin with is pretty unlucky. MB: (Shrugs) I don’t have much to compare it to, do I. L: I’m sorry. It is pretty miraculous you came out so unscathed.

L: You must be blessed by the forest gods. MB: (eyes wide) forest gods. You know any? L: It was just an expression. But there are a lot of mysterious things about places like this, you know.

MB: Yeah, I guess so. (looks a little weird) L: (side eye) We’re on our way to Anguin, a small nearby city. It has a hospital. Only one within a day’s travel, in fact. I figure we can ask around and see if they know you. MB: What if they don’t? L: Well. We’ll keep looking. It’s mostly wilderness out this way, though, and it’s really not safe to aimlessly scour the woods for your cave. Despite your previous luck, we’re just not properly equipped for that. I think the city’s our best shot, but we can equip ourselves there and return—

“Let me know if you need a hand,” he says as he turns to go sit down. Lunar rubs his face and sticks his head in the freezer. “I’ve been on the road too long.”

“No, I didn’t mean it in a bad way,” Lunar says. “I was just thinking you must be from somewhere far away. I think the way you speak is very charming. You’re very charming in general.” “See? We’re hitting it off already.” “I suppose you’re right. Are you hurting at all? I have some pain medication and bandages if you need.” “I’m fine. Worst is my feet, and they’re not too bad. Ground was pretty wet and muddy, so I didn’t take a lot of damage. Mostly just got tired and dirty.” “As long as you’re alright. I found some clothes that might fit you. They’re on the couch. Let me know if they’re too small.”

“M’kay.” He turns to go put on the clothes. Lunar watches him walk away around the corner, then turns back to his cooking and says, “I’m in trouble.” “What was that?” “Nothing. Just. Too much spice maybe,” lunar says with red face as he adds more spice to the stew. He rubs his forehead with a sheepish smile.

“Fits fine, I think?” He’s wearing a sleeveless shirt with pants that are rolled up at the ankle. “Ah, that’s good. But here, you don’t need those rolled up like I do.” Lunar gets on his knees and begins to unroll the pant cuffs.

Lunar looks up and sees the man looking down at him with a smile. He blushes, gets up and says, “Ehem. Go have a seat. I’ll bring the food.”

Lunar is cooking. Mystery boy says from off screen, “smells good.” Lunar says, “It’s nothings special but it’s—“ he turns his head. “Oh!”

Mystery boy leans against the wall wearing only a towel. He says, “Is something wrong?” Lunar blushes. “No, not at all, I was just…” he stares with the stirring spoon against his mouth.

Lunar turns back to the pot covering his face and coughs. “Excuse me. The spice…” “That’s good. I like things spicy.” Lunar giggles. “Perfect. How are you? Do you remember anything yet?” “No, but I feel pretty normal. I mean, it’s not like looking at a stranger in the mirror, you know? Like I said before, I still know things.”

“Like, I know you’re totally my type.” “You, um—your type?” Lunar is flustered again. “Yeah. My type of person. I know we’ll really hit it off, you know?” “Hit it off…” “You speak so strangely.” “Sorry.”

They hold eye contact. The mystery boy seems perfectly comfortable, moving his face even closer, while Lunar gets flustered, looking down and smiling, still blushing, before making his way out. The mystery boy bites his lip and smiles.

Mystery boy in the shower. He sights under the water, pushes his hair back and says either a smile, “He’s so cute.”

Drying his hair, he catches his face in the mirror. He looks closer at his own face and says, “we’ll look good together.”

They arrive back at Lunar’s RV like vehicle. He says, “Here we are.” “Whoah! This is your vehicle? It’s cool!” “Cool you say? Interesting word choice.” He opens the door and begins to climb inside. “Come inside. Watch your step.”

Inside, looking at the space. “Whoah!” “You like it that much? It’s rather cramped.” Lunar takes off his jacket and utility belt. “It’s cozy.” They both stand in front of the bathroom door.

They’re standing next to the shower in very close proximity due to the limited space 😏 “Here’s the shower. You can clean the forest off you while I make us something to eat. Do you need help though? I can help you—“ “You’d help me…” Lunar blushes and says, “I mean, if you need, of course, if you’re hurt, I’d-I could—“ “*giggles* It’s okay, I can manage.” Lunar turns and opens the shower door. “Ehem. You just pull this here—you control the temperature like this.”

They’re face to face again. “Just be as sparing as you can with the water. We have a built in treatment system, but it’s rather slow.” He’s still blushing. “I’ll find you some clothes too. “Thank you.” Lunar tries to sidestep his way out of the small space and their faces get even closer.

Lunar looks at the man’s body and says, “wow.” “What is it?” “Nothing. You’re just bigger than I thought from how you looked down there. With those eyes—“

“Ahem—“ Lunar turns and motions for the man to follow. “Excuse me. This way please” he smiles over his shoulder at the man, who smiles back.

“find light. Or somebody, or somewhere. My head’s all cloudy and I was…” “Scared?” Lunar finishes for him. “Very.” “Understandably so.” “I’m sorry. I messed up. I don’t know which way I came, even from here.”

“You don’t remember anything else at all?” He pauses for a moment to think. “That’s it. That’s all there is. I think… I’m just confused.” “You’re probably starving.” Lunar stands up. “Perhaps I should’ve taken the townspeople up on their offer. But, never mind that.”

“You’ll come with me and I’ll make you something to eat. After you’ve rested, we’ll try to figure out where you’ve come from, alright?” “You’d do that for me? I can’t pay you.” Lunar eyes smile into crescent moons. “I’m aware of that. You don’t even have shoes, my friend. But I am a public servant, and as such my services are free. Though this isn’t exactly my specialty, it is my duty to help you.” He reaches a hand down towards the man. “Come along.”

Lunar helps the man stand. They meet eyes and the man smiles brightly.

“Sorry, was that weird?” Lunar blushes. “No, it’s—I’m quite flattered. Thank you.” “This.” The man picks up the dart off the ground. “Is like a tranquilizer dart. Right?” “It is.” “Yeah. So I know what it is but not why I know it, you know? It’s like that. I know… but I don’t remember.” “Yet you know of exorcists but not artifacts.”

“Is that weird? I mean, I don’t know my name either.” “I don’t know, but it’s fascinating. Ah… You appear to be in some kind of hospital garb. Are you injured? Perhaps you’ve hit your head?” The man looks down at his clothes for a moment. “I don’t feel injured. At least, I mean, I didn’t when I woke up. but I’ve been walking a while and a lot of things hurt now. Like. My feet. My head is mostly fine, though. Outside of not remembering anything.” Lunar looks concerned.

Lunar touches his shoulder and says, “I’ll take care of you. I promise. Tell me the last thing—or, the first thing, I suppose—that you remember.” “I woke up. alone. It was dark but there was a little blue light next to me, but before I could do or see anything it just… went out. And then it was like pitch black, and I just wanted to find light so I got up and felt my way around until I was outside of… like, a cave. And…”

He pauses for a moment. “It was still really dark, but I could see by the moon at least. And I just kept walking, looking for light.” “That must’ve been quite harrowing. Do you know which way? Could you take me there?” “I don’t think so. I’m sorry. I wasn’t really paying attention, I just wanted to…”

Lunar looks towards the man and smiles. “And I’ll look after this one as well.” “If you insist,” Oakwood says. “Thank you again, Lunar. and…” The man still doesn’t give a name. “strange young man.” The villagers leave.

“Places out here are a little wary of strangers, as a general rule,” Lunar says. “They tolerate us when needed, but prefer to be left alone.” He kneels down in front of the man. “Hello there. Who might you be?”

“I’m—“ the man looks confused. “I’m not sure. maybe… ahh. someone.” Lunar smiles at him and says, “Well, maybe someone. It’s a pleasure to meet you. And I offer my thanks to you as well. They call me Lunar, exorcist first class of the commonwealth.” “Lunar? Wow. It’s really, really good to meet you.” “Do you not remember who you are?”

“I don’t. I don’t remember anything,” he says. “But I know that if you’re an exorcist then that person must’ve been possessed by a demon, cus’ that’s what exorcists do right? Help people who’re possessed?” “More or less. But we don’t call them “demons.” They’re artifacts.” The man looks to the side. “Huh. Didn’t know that.” He smiles at Lunar and says, “Lunar, like the moon. It suits you. You’re pretty, like the moon. I mean, not that you’re both just pretty, but you’re pretty in the same way the moon is pretty, you know?” Lunar’s eyes get wide.

Lunar puts the device away in his pouch. “She’s slightly malnourished, but otherwise everything looks fine. Is there a healer present?” Oakwood and a man in white approach. The man says, “Right here. I’ll take care of her. Bring the stretcher.” “Was there an object?” Lunar asks to Oakwood and others put the unconscious woman on a stretcher.

“None that we could find,” Oakwood says. Lunar hands Oakwood a card. “If you do find one, please contact this number. They’ll come pick it up and transport it to the museum for you, if you’d like. Do wear gloves when you touch it though. Unless you’d like to experience the memories. But, even after an exorcism there’s still some risk of possession, so I don’t recommend it unless you have an exorcist present.” “Of course. Thank you, Lunar. I don’t know what we would’ve done if you hadn’t come as soon as you did.”

Oakwood looks to the mystery man still sitting in the grass. “And you, ah…” the man stares but doesn’t speak. “strange young man. I thank you for your assistance as well.” “Oh. no problem,” he says. “I was just here and… yeah.” “Strange young man with a strange way of speaking.” Oakwood laughs nervously. “You’re not from around here, are you?” He shrugs.

Oakwood turns back to Lunar. “Well. Anyway. May we treat you to dinner this evening as a thank you? Um. Both of you?” “No, no, you’ve thanked me already and that’s quite enough,” Lunar says. “I must be on my way.”

Lunar kneels down in front of the man and says, “I’m going to use this.” The starry eyed man says, “will it hurt her?” Lunar says, “It will save her life.”

Lunar holds the wand over the woman and it glows. Something ethereal whooshes out of her and she falls back into the grass.

Lunar knees down beside the woman and attaches a device to her wrist.

Lunar looks up and meets the eyes of the mystery man and says, “Do you need help? I can help you.” The man with a little lopsided smile says, “I think so.” Townspeople begin to approach. Lunar says, “Stay back, please. Just for a moment.”
