Non-biting midges fuel much of @northcavewet.bsky.social - but don’t get much screen time. So here’s a (pretty poor) corrective. Elsewhere: right on cue - hungry sand martins!

Bright orange background featuring a quote from an OU student about SCONUL Access that reads: "My local university library has given me a consistent place to study which is easy to focus in and makes me feel part of a wider academic community. It allows me to study with friends who attend the local brick university so that we can study together."

Studying at a distance doesn’t mean studying alone! 💻👥

With SCONUL Access, #OUstudents can use university libraries across the UK & Ireland. 📚

Study alongside others and feel more connected to a wider learning community, closer to where you live... 👇 https://ow.ly/LboH50YmQrz

First Dronefly for me this year @northcavewet.bsky.social. So….front tarsi dark? rear tibia ‘banana shaped’? I’m going ❌ to both, & my first guess of 2026 is therefore… Eristalis pertinax (not sure it really matters though unless you’re another Eristalis 😂) Elsewhere: sparrowhawk, curlew, stoat

A male Bearded Tit caught mid-leap between two reed stems, wings tucked, little feet ready to land and eyes intensely focused on its destination: perfectly embodying the bold 'just go for it' Monday energy.

Be more Bearded Tit...jump into the week!

Yes - though sometimes feel Whitehead's 'journey' is just as inspiring, from doubt through to belief on the basis of evidence - we see that all too infrequently!

Dr John Snow demonstrates his wrath at the spread of misinformation!! Well, proper alt text would be 'man looking like Dr Doolittle breaks pump handle in front of amazed dairy maids in image of event that never happened'

Don't mess with the Dr!! (To muddy the pestilential waters still further, think there's a reasonable justification for saying symptoms for potential index case began on 28th August)

Glad @drcolinm.bsky.social reposted, as an (ex-🙂) HYMS teacher always special to get even a brief glimpse of 'what happened next?' - even if it's sometimes been a challenging journey. A thought provoking talk, with a lot of hard-won wisdom, thanks for sharing.

Prison education time slashed by one quarter, MoJ admits Ministers stress rising costs means prison education delivery must be squeezed

While prison education is still nowhere near good enough, it has been slowly improving. The cuts will reverse that.

We back the Justice Committee's call for a clear plan to improve both participation and quality in prison education and to reverse these ill-conceived cuts.
