ABOUT FREAKIN' TIME!
19.02.2026 01:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Heh. I've driven past Stretch Island's (now former) factory any number of times on my way down to Shelton or out to the coast.
18.02.2026 13:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well, there goes the rest of my afternoon...
17.02.2026 21:05 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Cleaning out some old archive directories... and I have questions for my 2017 self.
Why do I have a bunch of pictures of Kumiko in a directory named "Seattle"?
(The often obscure non fiction that I reserve is only very rarely available electronically.)
16.02.2026 05:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sometimes, after months of waiting, I get a notification that an interlibrary loan has arrived at my local library, and I look at the title and draw a complete blank... I have to google the title to see what the book is about before I remember why I asked for it.
16.02.2026 05:46 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But Sam and Diane are like the only pair out of the four that I even know...
14.02.2026 23:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Those of us who've followed you for years are used to it... /s
14.02.2026 19:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Gotta say, I think I'd at least check that out...
14.02.2026 19:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Something being classified doesn't mean it isn't or can't be appropriately documented. It just means the photographer needs to hold the appropriate clearance and access and the film (or tape) and the camera (while it's loaded) must be treated as classified material from the moment of image capture.
14.02.2026 14:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it!"
Still have the record of Briefcase I bought back in high school... The Blues Brothers were part of what woke me up from Disco. (So was Devo and the Dead Kennedys.)
Yes, I knew.
14.02.2026 00:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I will always remember something BaBs (a dev on the OG City of Heroes) once said:
"The best thing a dev team can do is listen to their players. The worst thing a dev team can do is listen to their players."
Enjoy and travel safe!
13.02.2026 13:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I want, no I NEED that coffee cup.
13.02.2026 12:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0From the sea we did climb, and to the sea we shall return.
12.02.2026 23:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Unless the company's principals and bankers are also on the Moon and beyond the reach of terrestrial authorities... They too will be subject to legal authority.
And the folks at the launch site as well.
They're not wrong...
I've been hearing high school (and after) music in *grocery stores*.
And the vast, vast, majority of the books I saw that were moldy were generally only worth a few bucks to start with. They just weren't really worth putting any significant effort into conserving.
12.02.2026 01:52 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Here's the current best conservation practices for moldy books and paper. It's a lot of effort and Not Cheap.

They use chlorine *di*oxide (AKA bleach) to kill anthrax, and yes it will damage books. And it's not just the spores that are the problem, there's also staining and often physical damage due to the damp environment where mold thrives.
12.02.2026 01:24 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Yeah, they listen, but they don't always buy. They've got a budget, and a collection policy.
11.02.2026 23:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0OK, I've just learned that sticky toffee pudding is a thing, and I must make some soon.
11.02.2026 20:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Dealing with moldy books is one of the things I don't miss about being a used and rare book dealer.
Also, not dealing with bookshelves that had been welded (books, shelves, and all) into a single unit with cat piss.
I almost failed math in school... But in the Navy? Aced stuff much harder than what I encountered in school.
Part of it may have been there were Very Real Consequences for failing a Navy school. But I think a big part of it was that it had context, which isn't present in primary school.
A professional artist friend of mine want to work with older pigments so bad she can taste it. But so *many* of those pigments are stuff no sane person would work with here in the 21st century and she's smart enough not to.
Frustrates the hell out of her.

I am just a random forgotten dot, unlabeled because I don't fit into anyone's ticky boxes.
And I'm just fine with that.
