Heh. I've driven past Stretch Island's (now former) factory any number of times on my way down to Shelton or out to the coast.

Well, there goes the rest of my afternoon...

Cleaning out some old archive directories... and I have questions for my 2017 self.

Why do I have a bunch of pictures of Kumiko in a directory named "Seattle"?

(The often obscure non fiction that I reserve is only very rarely available electronically.)

Sometimes, after months of waiting, I get a notification that an interlibrary loan has arrived at my local library, and I look at the title and draw a complete blank... I have to google the title to see what the book is about before I remember why I asked for it.

But Sam and Diane are like the only pair out of the four that I even know...

Those of us who've followed you for years are used to it... /s

Gotta say, I think I'd at least check that out...

Something being classified doesn't mean it isn't or can't be appropriately documented. It just means the photographer needs to hold the appropriate clearance and access and the film (or tape) and the camera (while it's loaded) must be treated as classified material from the moment of image capture.

I've been hearing high school (and after) music in *grocery stores*.

And the vast, vast, majority of the books I saw that were moldy were generally only worth a few bucks to start with. They just weren't really worth putting any significant effort into conserving.

Here's the current best conservation practices for moldy books and paper. It's a lot of effort and Not Cheap.

They use chlorine *di*oxide (AKA bleach) to kill anthrax, and yes it will damage books. And it's not just the spores that are the problem, there's also staining and often physical damage due to the damp environment where mold thrives.

Yeah, they listen, but they don't always buy. They've got a budget, and a collection policy.

OK, I've just learned that sticky toffee pudding is a thing, and I must make some soon.

Dealing with moldy books is one of the things I don't miss about being a used and rare book dealer.

Also, not dealing with bookshelves that had been welded (books, shelves, and all) into a single unit with cat piss.

I almost failed math in school... But in the Navy? Aced stuff much harder than what I encountered in school.

Part of it may have been there were Very Real Consequences for failing a Navy school. But I think a big part of it was that it had context, which isn't present in primary school.

A professional artist friend of mine want to work with older pigments so bad she can taste it. But so *many* of those pigments are stuff no sane person would work with here in the 21st century and she's smart enough not to.

Frustrates the hell out of her.
