The Word of the Year can be a phrase. Just saying.

Oh god, Tyler and Anita... I'm having flashbacks.

Your article is great.

And for what it's worth, this company sucks at grammar too. Their blog posts about the topic are filled with errors.

You know those depictions of hell where it's just a waiting room? Like the most boring place ever? This is that. Just a monotonous demon droning crap like "the agent draws on publicly available information to surface writing suggestions inspired by the published work of influential voices"

I swear these companies read The Sneetches and identified with the bad guy.

I can assure you, Dave, that I did not get a Grade A in my high school English classes. Might be why I still struggle with metaphors. 😅

For unrelated reasons, I may or may not have told one of my classes today that academic publishers are the devil.

My students will NEVER have to buy a book for one of my courses. Ever.

I mean, what is Ulysses but a 700-page version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar?

So I'd say yes, there is an option. In theory.

This is so funny because they had us read The Great Gatsby in high school and I understood the language then... and I was a fucking moron when I was a junior in high school. Like a Grade A doofus.

I noticed that instead of emailing students with "Hello [name]," I've just been writing "Hell [name]". No idea how long I've been doing it, nor whether it's actually a typo or just my subconscious. Because hell. We live in hell.

Well, this one appears to be false. Good that it was deleted and apologies for sharing it. The point still stands: into the sun with the lot of em. bsky.app/profile/gbru...

Critical AI On this page are some resources for Critical AI Literacy (CAIL) from my perspective.

Btw, Claude just told the US military to bomb a school. Shame is not enough. These companies can embrace the rocket ship as we launch them into the fucking sun.

Embrace It, Don't Shame It: Using AI to Enhance Student Learning and Problem Solving | xKiwiLabs Universities panicked when ChatGPT arrived. Bans, detection tools, fear of cheating. But the real risk was never the tools — it was failing to teach students how to use them well. Here's how we went f...

Screenshot shows a blogpost from xKixiLabs called "Embrace it, don't shame it: Using AI to Enhance Student Learning and Problem Solving"

Embrace shit. Excerpt from the blog saying "Now, in 2026, we’ve built an entire course around this philosophy. The course is called Practical AI for Behavioural Science, and it doesn’t just permit AI use — it requires it. Every student uses ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot, and Gemini throughout the semester."

This is embarrassing.

At least two of these programs have told people to kill themselves. The companies behind them support fascism. And you're *forcing* your students to use them?? I am definitely going to shame you. Because you should be ashamed.

why won’t the left just praise every technology handed down from self-interested billionaires seeking only to enhance their power and profits?! clearly, they’re the ones in the wrong if they can’t get on board 😤

9yo's first response was "What? Why would I have _feelings_ about helping verbs?"

Me: 💔😢

My 9yo's homework had this question: How do you feel about helping verbs?

9yo: I feel like helping verbs are a type of word in my life.

Same, kid. Same.

Years ago I showed Kachru's (1985) three circles model to a class and asked them what they thought of it. First student to raise a hand said "Well, it's really old."

She dismantled her era’s version of ICE.🧵

What do you mean about the students things? Something I wrote? I've had positive experiences in discussing this policy with students. Some of them are clearly not on board with AI and it being forced on them. And students appreciate a clear policy (and the chance to talk about it).

Your job in higher ed isn't valuable anymore, why'd don't you and your students use the sycophantic suck up machine to invent some sources. Oh and they might melt the brains of their users while boiling the oceans and regurgitating white nationalists.

Yes 1000%. Higher Ed has sold a degree as a marker of competence and now we're just ceding all of that away to corporations that want to be paid to make things worse for everyone that uses them.
