Death of the author is only a valid option when the author is actually dead, imo. Cultural relevancy is still monetizable even if readers refuse to support the author directly. Capitalism will capitalize.

In light of the revelations this week: The compost pile of the author's life feeds their work. Only you can decide if the bodies of their victims affect the taste of their fruits.

My copies of his books end with me and will be destroyed. I will not pass them on so others can fall in love.

And on a personal note, I am particularly turned off by "literary" books that are older. Most are misogynistic to some degree. There are plenty of notable exceptions to the rule but I have no interest in misogynistic material anymore. It isn't worth my limited time on this earth.

It will typically turn me off from reading it. I've done my fair share of careful reading; at this point in my life/career I want books that don't make me work so hard in my leisure time. I expect a "literary" book to demand close attention to its thesis and language.

#tbr ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ recommendation: The Queen of Attolia, the second book in the Queen's Thief series. The first book is middle school YA; the second and on are Decidedly Not and will launch you headfirst into a delightfully twisty swashbuckling political ride that will leave you addicted. 6 book series.

The first draft is like assembling IKEA furniture: chaotic, frustrating, and half the parts won’t fit.

Cannot express how good the vibes are here. This place feels like the old internet, when I was a teen and the people around me online were first and foremost new friends to meet. These vibes are why we all liked social media to begin with.
