You are free to roam the observatory on foot. Vehicles these days all emit radio frequency interference so keeping them as far away from the telescopes as possible is desirable.

I also had a small part in the search for C60. Worked with Dr Bill Somerville at UCL, we used the 74 inch telescope at Mt Stromolo and it's echelle spectrograph. Observed a bunch of cool carbon stars over a span of 21 nights. Never found it though. I now work @ Green Bank Observatory, small world!

We do have wireless internet in one room. It works by modulating the intensity of the room lights and needs a dongle plugged into a USB port. Be happy to demo it for you next time you are at GB.

I'm sure it won't surprise you to learn that there is still a short segment on the GBT for some really old VxWorks hardware.

Must have flown right over Spruce Knob for that view.
