Bulletproof Pride

According to Reuters, “The Trump administration has terminated more than half of all federal funding for gun violence prevention programs in the U.S., cutting $158 million in grants.”

This comes less than 48 hours after the shootings in New York, Nevada, Georgia, among others.

We are outraged.

Though we don’t know if this shooting was targeted or not, violence in and around our communities makes spaces like Stonewall feel more dangerous to go to, and that is a reality no one should ever have to face.

We just heard about the shooting in Greenwich Village in New York. We are offering our support to the community impacted tonight.

A few blocks away from the Stonewall Inn & NYC Pride, everyone deserves to have a safe space without the fear of gun violence, especially in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Illinois would benefit greatly from a true safe storage law that requires all firearms to be securely locked up when not in use. SB8 is not that bill. SB8 would not even apply to the 70% of Illinois households that don't have minor children. #needsimprovement 😐

(1,2) America is broken. My daughter Jaime was murdered in the Parkland school shooting. Many of her friends who were lucky enough to survive that shooting went on to attend FSU. Incredibly, some of them were just a part of their 2nd school shooting and some of were in the student union today.
