My Euro-Euro-Euro Country, oh All the big boys All the Berties All the envelopes, yeah they hurt me I was 12 when the das started killing themselves all around me

This line in Cmat’s Euro Country really guts me. 2013 I used to have desperate men coming from Drogheda, Dundalk, & further, into the bar I worked in looking for work, construction workers whose jobs had disappeared asking for hours to pay the mortgage- β€œany hours at all”. kills me remembering

The Corleck Head β€’ Cavan

As we're in the time of Lughnasa, it gives me an excuse to share one of my favourite artefacts in @nmireland.bsky.social – the Corleck Head.

It was found in 1855 near Corleck Hill in County Cavan, where a Lughnasa festival was regularly held.

Only ever been to Inishmore, but it was just fabulous. A ferry from Rossaveel, hired electric bikes then up to DΓΊn Aonghasa, awestruck! Cycled all around the island, stopping at the weird funeral monuments. Back to Rossaveel & onto Clifden (great music & food). Is the wedding done? Hope ye had fun

I don't know how anyone will ever live with their conscience if they don't try to do something to stop this. Politicians, yes, but all of us too. Unbearably sad

I love this idea. Presumably you could grow it into any shape, so I could fulfill my ambition to have an elaborate Ghanaian-style coffin. I'm still deciding on what to celebrate in my life 😊 & therefore what shape it will be!

Yes, I understand how to make the search more specific, I just think filters would've been useful. There is metadata on each piece of audio so it should be possible. I think they're closing out the VPN route too. I'm just cranky because my audio comfort blanket is gone!

I've looked a couple of times & can't find them. I suppose I'll get used to it, but the search is wretched. I'd be happy to pay a subscription to keep BBC Sounds, but they're not interested in earning money!!

To live well in small spaces also requires a high quality of life outside of your home and locality, it requires a social contract for
- universal healthcare
- affordable childcare
- safe active travel
- great public transport
- attractive downsizing homes
- lower energy & food costs

They've prioritised increasing supply by
- ending hoarding & speculation
- Compulsory Sales Orders -derelict
- Compulsory Rental Orders -vacant
- vacancy tax
- limiting Short Term Lets
- restricting holiday homes
- approving less hotels/offices
- building public/social homes
- state still own land

With all the talk of 32m2 homes it’s important to aware that other European countries compensate smaller homes with
- public luxury of parks, playgrounds & public spaces
- beautiful urban enviroments (i.e. no dereliction)
- external private storage
- shared laundry
- real rent caps
- secure tenure

I can't face much news these days. This cheered me up though. My 'black' cornflowers, are lovely - I know they're purple rather than black, but still! Got the seeds from the shop in the Palm House, Vienna last year. Looking forward to saving the seeds at the end of flowering. Look to the future
