Nature-friendly farming boosts both biodiversity and crop yields β€” but scaling it up may need more government subsidies to become as profitable as intensive agriculture, a new study led by UKCEH and @rothamsted.bsky.social has found

#InsectWeek event @bristolbiosci.bsky.social was a huge success - over 200 visitors across all ages, some who had even cycled here from other cities, and there was lots of enthusiasm and fascination for the mini-beasts (woodlice, spiders, and ticks also featured!). Thanks to all who came & helped!

A Puffin with its beak full of sandeel fish looks down the camera.

Last year the EU challenged the UK's closure of industrial sandeel fishing in its waters.

These closures are a lifeline for the millions of seabirds which rely on sandeels for food.

Reversing them would be a blow for hungry Puffins, Kittiwakes, and other birds.

Department for Education confirms launch of natural history GCSE Campaigners have been calling for the qualification for years but plan stalled despite a curriculum being drawn up

Brilliant news! At last, confirmation that the Govt *will* go ahead with the #NaturalHistoryGCSE πŸŽ‰ We have to get to know our fellow travellers on this planet again. Young people who know & love nature are far more likely to protect & restore it - as well as enjoying better physical & mental health

This bee's really special. Her name is Xylocopa myops & she's NOCTURNAL

But instead of developing echolocation or another sense to help them navigate the dark, this species puts all their effort into sight. She has absolutely massive eyes as you can see. But more than that, she has huge ocelli. 1/x
