Respectfully, eat shit. Those kids were expelled, arrested, and targeted relentlessly by their school administrations with the specific goal of preventing further protest. Eighteen year old kids were held down and maced by campus security, hit point blank with tear gas canisters by riot cops.

Up to 3.2 million Iranians and 800,000 Lebanese have been displaced from their homes by the Trump-Netanyahu war. That’s the equivalent of emptying the entire cities of Houston and Philadelphia.

I knew this administration
was cruel, stupid, and ill-prepared,
but I didn't know it was
this cruel, stupid, and ill-prepared.

Your thread reminds me of Immediacy, or The Style of Too Late Capitalism by @annakornbluh.bsky.social. Here's a line from the intro:

"... we are fastened to appalling circumstances from which we cannot take distance"

it's weird that the counter-argument to "why are you on twitter, which is an engineered nazi-indoctrination machine owned by Elon Musk" is "bluesky too cringe"

March 8, 2026 - Tehran at sunrise today. But the sun is hidden behind a sky filled with smoke. After a night of intensive strikes on oil facilities, thick black clouds now hang over the city, turning morning into something that feels like night.

Seeing ppl circulate projects whose NEH grants were canceled by DOGE reaffirms my argument about AI as a permission structure. Some grants were canceled w/o a “no” from the generated summary. DOGE had a mandate to slash humanities funding & AI gave them the veneer of a rationale for their actions.

NEH's budget is tiny—not just compared to NSF/NIH, but compared to humanities funding in every other wealthy nation. What little was there was largely rescinded and several programs were cut in full last year. It decimated not merely individual projects but whole corners of the humanities in the US.

Air travel has become a lot riskier for certain racialized (regardless of citizenship status) groups and I don't think we understand the extent of it.

This woman, US citizen living in Skokie, was detained at Ohare yesterday, taken to Broadview, then transferred to a detention facility in Wisconsin, now released. We know all this not because of DHS, who repeatedly denied that they even had her, but because her phone was pinging in those locations.

Maybe people will wake up to the fact that the AI push has been about paying workers even less and taking away job security.

Less "prompt engineering" and more labor organizing.

There are two blocks of flights that leave East Africa for the Gulf. One leaves in the mid morning, usually ferrying holiday makers on their way from their safaris or on their way to Dubai, people returning home using the cheaper ticket. They walk through the airport confidently.

Oh my! I took an English course with Dr. Nina Baym years ago. She was wonderful.

(sorry, only making the connection with you and her now, and am so delighted to see her memory honored this way)

A bunch of white men start an illegal and ill advised war but then decide that white bodies are far too precious to be risked at the front line so they find nefarious ways of enabling brown people to fight each other on their behalf.

The racism of it all.

We went from making up reasons like "weapons of mass destruction" to you know what, fuck it we don't need to even lie, the president "had a feeling" that they pose a threat so we just bomb them so we can. A country doing this can't expect peace inside.

It's absolutely surreal how no one is talking about the Iran war in daily life. No one is discussing it and they seem oblivious. This conflict is spiraling and deteriorating in a way that it will substantially disrupt daily life for most of the world for the first time in decades.

we appear to have four competing fascist movements jockeying for control: blood & soil nazism under miller and hegseth, darwinian ecofascism from rfk, technofascism under vance and musk, and one Big Wet Hitler who understands the true animating core of the american volk is a deep love for shopping
