🌏 📈 Our planet is changing. But Scripps Oceanography scientists like @aminaschartup.bsky.social and @jkendallbar.bsky.social are leading the charge to create a more resilient future for our planet and its inhabitants. Learn more about their innovative research. ⬇️
🦭 I was honored to be invited to co-author this perspective for Science with Lucy Hawkes from @exetermarine.bsky.social, showcasing diverse adaptations to hypoxia- responding to a new study by McKnight et al. that suggests that seals use oxygen as a cue to breathe.

Yes! The classic: is this a cool thing in my data or indeed just a processing error? 😩🤣
QC QC QC! Such a high quality dataset thanks to your coding dedication ✨

Congratulations @sarameghanbeery.bsky.social ! Very well deserved- excited to see what comes next. :) 🌱
I'm incredibly honored to be included in this year's cohort of AI2050 Fellows! Awarded by Schmidt Sciences, this award seeks to advance research that fully realizes the potential of AI to benefit humanity 🌍

Monumental achievement. Good science isn't just some guy in a lab coat who has all the brains. It takes work. It can take years to collect data.
This data is useful. Why? Fisheries. Economies. Shipping. Understanding the effects of our causes. Understanding our living planet.
🚨 New Paper Alert 🚨
We put decades of effort in collecting this massive dataset on movement and diving behaviour of northern elephant seals and now we make it available! 🦭🦑🌎

More on Saimaa ringed seal conservation, following positive news on controlling fishing seasons and piling snow for den-making. Seal boxes! Adorable, successful idea: projects for Men's Sheds, senior schools or scouts/guides locally? Would be a great way to involve community. #GoodGreenNews 🌎🦭
Here's an example of how you can use this dataset- we can pull all >600 netCDF files from Dryad to visualize tracks and diving data from 2017 to highlight a single animal with lower foraging success than the others. More on that animal by @RachelHolser: academic.oup.com/conphys/arti...
Congrats to the whole team, who assisted with fieldwork and data curation, on this important accomplishment for movement ecology and reproducible science!
Honored to have contributed to a new paper out today in Nature @ScientificData where Dan Costa, @rachelholser.bsky.social, Theresa Keates, & *many* past and present members of the Costa lab who worked to collect, prepare, and share this incredible dataset doi.org/10.1038/s415...
I'd love to be added to round 2 :) Thanks!
New paper from Exeter Marine researchers finds that Montserrat's nesting sea turtles migrate and feed in multiple countries, highlighting the need for conservation without borders! 🐢
Well done team!
