The real story isn’t young men supposedly voting far right. It’s what young women are up to There is an opportunity staring centre-left parties in the face – if they reject the male gaze distorting our politics, says political scientist Cas Mudde

Cover of The Funambulist 59 with violet bush and yellow skies and a brown mountain peak in front of which stands a man covered in green bush with two yellow faces peeking from the left.

💥 Our new issue "Black Indigeneities" is out!

It's urgent to follow this issue’s contributors when they note that very notions of Blackness and Indigeneity emerge from an epistemological framework focusing on European settler colonialism (more particularly in North Atlantic, but not exclusively).

Trans women are women, trans men are men. I’m sorry so many smother their hearts with hate and won’t let you be. As though life isn’t hard enough.

For the first time since WWII an extreme right party is #1 in the German polls. Anti-fascist economic policy is urgently needed.

Instead the new coalition agenda entails:
- cut profit tax
- end 8 hr workday
- open tap for defense, austerity for the rest
- weaken social security

This is a big deal: the most prestigious prize in Germany for junior scholars across fields & a sign that the German research establishment is ready to acknowledge the importance of feminist philosophy

The prize is for Manon Garcia's "philosophical studies with high social and political relevance"

Debates about anarchism versus socialism reveal that many people are unaware of the history of the socialist movement. At Offshoot, we made a zine explaining how this nonsensical binary shows a need for more political education on these terms people misrepresent. offshootjournal.org/anarchism-or...

African Futurity as Forgotten History On the unimagined possibilities of Blackness

Universities are often quick to "celebrate" BHM. Yet that "celebration" is often not backed by concrete intellectual engagement with what may be possible if all of humanity is centred in knowledge creation. Then "decolonisation" and EDI are easy to turn back on.

This morning, M23 entered #Bukavu and took control of key locations including the governor’s residence and Ruzizi 1 border crossing. Amidst broader confusion, M23 entry had been erroneously reported since Friday night owing to inconclusive videos circulating on social media.

There in unfortunately not a quick answer. However, although mineral extraction and economic interests play a role, it is not the main reason. it is much, much more complicated than that. Here an excellent piece: www.thenewhumanitarian.org/opinion/2025...

The world cannot keep looking away. After 30 years, it is enough. Strength and solidarity to all those resisting and surviving in Bukavu.

This isn’t a distant conflict—it’s a geopolitical crisis with real human consequences which also impact our friends, neighbours, other parents at our kids' school, our colleagues who live in Belgium, but whose families and loved ones are in eastern DRC.

My thoughts are with Bukavu, where friends, colleagues and all civilians are bracing for a new cycle of violence, with the M23 advancing to the city.
