Headline: Non-U.S. trade propels Port of Vancouver to record cargo volumes.
CBC News - March 9, 2026

BC is Canada’s gateway to the Pacific. Record cargo movement through the Port of Vancouver and Vancouver International Airport connects energy, food and consumer goods with global markets—supporting good jobs, strengthening supply chains and keeping shelves stocked.

"She will sit meekly and defer to men in suits."

Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected at work. Misogyny has no place in workplaces, and certainly not from public servants working in public offices. Public service should always be grounded in professionalism, respect, & integrity.

This morning I wrote to 17 Pride groups to say we’ll proceed with their request for a motion to support the Human Rights Code.

Every MLA who supports the Code should vote to defend it.

We need to stand up for human rights, not give ground to those who would take them away.

My colleagues and I are standing in solidarity with our labour community @bcfed.bsky.social, this bill is unacceptable and our governing caucus will never entertain such anti-labour legislation.

Last week, the Conservatives introduced a bill that would scrap Project Labour Agreements and Community Benefit Agreements. This is an attack on fair wages, safe working conditions and the skilled union workforce that builds and maintains our province’s public infrastructure.

Minimum wage across Canada
[Bar graph comparing minimum wages]
Source: Canada.ca, Minimum Wage Database, Current and Forthcoming General Minimum Wage Rates in Canada, 2026

On June 1, 2026, minimum wage in BC will go up to $18.25 an hour. BC’s minimum wage was once one of the lowest in the country and is now one of the highest.

These regular, gradual increases provide certainty for workers and predictability for businesses.

Thankfully, the BC NDP voted down the bill 50-37. We will never back down in the fight against racism and to protect the rights and freedoms of all British Columbians ✊🏻

Budget 2026 builds on #taxfairness of the BC NDP. A working family of 4 pays $2,800 less tax today than under the BC Liberals while corporations and the top 1% contribute billions more. We increased credits for low income because we know the cost pressures they face. #bcpoli @bcndp.bsky.social
