Me too (though Canadian)--refusing to go to the USA:
- worry about the unpredictability of safety,
- choosing to boycott the current regime for its irresponsible and unethical international provocations (its domestic problems too, but not my reason)

A great scholar and great human being died today--Ole Skovsmose.
I very much appreciated his energy, his wit, and his dedication to lifting up and promoting scholars in regions underrepresented in our research field.
Rest in peace, Ole.

THank you Elizabeth for your article. @lizt1.bsky.social
I wonder why you didn't remind us of Stephen Harper's data purges, and similar efforts to save the data back in those days.
Let's get off our high horses, Canadians! (And be very careful about our choices in the coming federal election.)
Trump's purges of public data mirror Stephen Harper's similar moves a decade ago in Canada.

That looks like a similar level of fun to my New Year's Day task cleaning out some sauce that fell through the vent in the oven door and dirtied the space between oven door panes of glass. (The oven door is much more complicated than I had thought. Turns out there are four panes of glass in there!)

It's strange that the account has more than a thousand followers, follows only one account, and has no posts...

I suggest all Canadians read Elizabeth May's account of the meeting of the party leaders to discuss Trudeau's visit to Mar-a-Lago. A bit rambly, but important insight into how the leaders handle significant issues:

Just jumped in a discussion started by an American teacher on xitter about banning phones in school. (No of course we shouldnβt) another teacher said no because kids might need their phones in case there is a shooter.
Surely I cant be the only person to see the crazy on this? BAN THE BLOODY GUNS!

Does crisis propel you to action or push you into passivity?
Here are some lines from a moving poem by Joseph Fasano :
I know your days are precious
on this earth.
But what are you trying
to be free of?
The living? The miraculous
task of it?
