100% me too. I'm eager for the comeback of this format

Appreciate that the term has been sidehooked a lot by AI. In theory, generative could mean that something is dynamic or infinite based on a set of parameters. In this example, my terrain is generativeβ€”so you're able to explore the map infinitely, and it will generate continuously and dynamically <3

PS: and for full transparency; I run a small printed project called "Rendah Mag' and recently interviewed a few of my favourite artists in this space like RYOICHI KUROKAWA & BjΓΈrn Staal [attached a few shots of the print for anyone curious]

this space has always presented itself as a context-first practise; a self-containerised form of expression through information, and as a programmer I've always wanted to read more about this. This field can have overlaps with almost any industry, and the potential there is 100% research-worthy.

I've been a huge fan of outlets like C.A.N and Fact, and The Age of Data as some great examples of how this work could be visualised in print. However comparatively to standard art/music magazines, this space seems wildly lacking.

why aren't there more printed A/V & data art magazines?

despite being an obviously tech-focussed space; I always thought there'd be some impressive application to bringing more art like this into print.

I’ve been sharing a few of these modules as the library comes together. Next step is to wrap things up over the next couple of weeks before travelling.

Also exploring the idea of adapting some of these modules into a lighting installationβ€”different direction, but seeing where it leads.

The project reflects 10 years of programming and producing electronic music. The aim is to bring both practices together visuallyβ€”somewhere between underground, experimental world-building and generative systems.

At its core, it’s a series of code-based components reacting to external triggers.

This module combines technologies like three.js and p5.js, and currently runs in an Electron wrapper. It listens to OSC messages from a live Ableton session, which dictate which animations are triggered in the class-based repository.

This project is a web language-based pattern library that uses WebGL and other web utilities to create reactive audio and visuals through Ableton, MIDI, and OSC triggers. It supports a componentized class-based system where each class is an element or object with its own animated methods.

These modules extend an ongoing code-first audio-visual library. The project combines various web-technologies to document the capabilities of WebGL and data-processing in the new world. Everything you see is written in Javasript, and is capable of running in the browser.

I didn’t start this project to be an artist, or a musician, or a DJ; I started it out of curiosity. This project is my maxim for learning, and it took a decade of uncertainty to come full circle on that.

Close to a decade was spent working in music and programming independently, in a way that felt consistent with those around me. When you spend so long doing the same things week-to-week, you lose sight of what made you love a thing in the first place.

Quite eager to work more with mathematics in 2025 after have a pretty data-oriented year; there’s a lot of fun in visualising these ideas in a new space independent of practical use-case.
