this is why i'm sceptical about ireland's emphasis on individual artist bursaries and artists basic income... it means we can pay rent but its ultimately just more money that goes into landlords pockets, it's not enough, artists need infrastructure and cities need spaces like this, for everyone

"The nature of a pop-up is that it is drawing to a close from the moment that it opens. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It can help to give it focus and purpose."

Who Shares the Restroom Code with ICE Agents? (3rd printing) This collection of questions is an invitation to think about situations we may encounter with ICE, a poetic rant against ICE, and a provocation for ICE’s allies.

Yo! If you missed the first two printings, tonight I cranked out 100 more copies of the Public Collectors booklet "Who Shares the Restroom Code with ICE Agents?" Still just $6.00 from the Half Letter Press webstore. Give the gift of FUCK ICE to someone you love. halfletterpress.com/who-shares-w...

As makers of anarchist zines, we are asking you to help this person who was arrested and is facing deportation for allegedly having anarchist zines.

One of the conversations I had several times during last weekend's small press fair was about how few venues there are in Dublin that are amenable to certain types of cultural/community events; how few large-ish venues around that won't charge you 5-10k to take over the space for a day or two

The Claims of Close Reading - Boston Review Literary studies have been starved by austerity, but their core methodology remains radical.

"I learned about close reading when I asked them to take their own thinking seriously—to take themselves seriously. Doing so, I found, forced me to take my job more seriously." Loved this. www.bostonreview.net/articles/the...

Publications by Non-Tenure-Track Historians Since we began publishing in 2019, Contingent has published end-of-year lists of books and articles by non-tenure-track historians released in the past calendar year. To submit something for inclusion...

Haven't received as many contributions as usual for this year's lists--could be many things, but one aspect is surely that our ability to get this in front of people is much diminished. If you know folks whose stuff should be on here, please suggest it! contingentmagazine.org/yearly-pub-l...

So much good here, but IMHO the key point is that close reading enables students to believe “that they are capable, that they can do it.” They have been hollowed out, too, denied self-efficacy by modern educational systems. Freire, hooks, so many have taught us how to teach. If we will only do it.

There is so much in this incredible essay that I relate to, not just as one of the few people in my field who values/ uses "close reading" (therefore criticised for this). Also the moral injury and harm of austerity (economic, educational, social & cognitive), hollowing out what makes us human.

a table full of small books including an accordion with prints of jars or pots in blue, an upright print of Roman inscribed stones printed in mimeograph-purple, and an open book with the same stones (Antiphon Editions, UK) a table showing books on a small stand and also lying flat. there is a particularly colorful one on the table. this is Roberts Print (UK) table of small zines and stickers lying flat and three zines standing up. all brightly colored. this is Mossy Press (US and Belfast) at the Cailleach Books (IE) table, tons of zines of various sizes lying flat and a few standing up

quick snaps as I ran around the Fair just before the doors opened yesterday—Antiphon Editions, Roberts Print, Mossy Press, and Cailleach Books. I will be spending more money than I had planned, which is the way of the small press fair! TODAY 10-4, Pearse Street Library, FREE ENTRY! come on down

A book cover titled An Asylum for My Affections: Sketches of Maeve Brennan, edited by Molly Hennigan. The design features a cream background with elegant black serif text. At the center is a rectangular teal frame containing a black-and-white photograph of a woman seated and turned slightly to the side against a pink backdrop. The cover is displayed on a larger pink background bordered by teal.
