Maybe an Action Hero Can Save Comedy In β€œThe Naked Gun,” the perennial tough guy Liam Neeson makes a perfect transition to farce.

The return ofΒ β€œThe Naked Gun” is a rare pivot from Hollywood’s tendency toward action-adventure moviesβ€”and feels β€œlike an oasis in the desert,” writes @davidlsims.bsky.social:

Star Trek Voyager scene. We're on the ship, I think in the dining hall, smells like pancakes. Anyways, Tuvok is standing in uniform and seems to be talking. Closed caption reads, "I have grown to respect a great many of you. Others, I have learned to tolerate."

Four Superheroes Who Deserve a Day Off In the latest β€œFantastic Four” reboot, it’s all apocalyptic menace, all the time.

The latest "Fantastic Four" film is more interested in high-stakes conflict than having much fun, writes David Sims:

In Defense of the Traditional Review Far from being a journalistic relic, as suggested by recent developments at the New York Times, arts criticism is inherently progressive, keeping art honest and pointing toward its future.

The Times's reassignment of four critics is one thing, but its downgrading of the so-called traditional review is altogether another:

The First Superman Movie Worth Watching in Years The newest take on the caped hero wisely embraces his corniness.

SUPERMAN is triumphantly goofy; truly the first time a comic book movie has gotten my blood pumping in years. I'm sure the tone and manic plotting will be divisive; for me, it felt like what's most magical about the medium www.theatlantic.com/culture/arch...

no, if a movie premiered at a fest and was reviewed there it’s fair game. studios will very occasionally ask for a more unofficial embargo (like holding reviews for week of release) but that’s rare and much less of a hardline thing
