For those of us church kids from the 80s that were warned about the day we would be persecuted for our faith feeling a glimmer of recognition in this moment, didn’t we always know it would be the most Pharisee-like Christians doing the persecuting?
This really wasn’t intended to be a prompt for virtue signalling, because the first involuntary uncomfortable thought you have in response is the point.
Here’s a thought experiment for white liberals, and the first involuntary thought is the only one that counts:

I agree 100% with Amanda Nelson of Amandasmildtakes (multiple platforms). In any substantive sense, how is all of this any different from the long-invoked specter of martial law the left has been using to enforce calls for decorum and civility?

We’ve tried truth to power. Time now for power to power. For most movements, internal reckoning only comes after defeat. We owe them that.
If we just let the wealthy live tax-free unregulated lives, this would all be over, because they are willing to burn down the house with the rest of us inside if we don’t.
Catchy slogan, but this ain’t the time for “everything-will-be-okay.” Nothing has been “done to” this country. What we are seeing is how ugly this country has always been just below a thin layer of veneer. Something better has to take its place and it won’t be easy.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, if two of us have a contract, and you break it constantly, if I still follow that contract, it doesn’t make me principled, it makes me a chump. Conservatives have been breaking the contract for the last 40+ years. There is no consensus to be had.
