Iran did not work to do get Trump elected, they wanted to assassinate him, but Joe Biden warned them that it would be considered an act of war.
RIP to one of the greatest German philosophy posts of all time.
me paying $30 in gas to buy imported things that have been hit with tariffs bc joe rogan is learning about politics at age 58
People are mad that they're proposing a tax cut, no one seriously expected them to campaign on middle class tax increases. Not increasing middle class taxes for political reasons is forgivable but gutting the tax base in a way that's very politically difficult to reverse is a terrible idea.
Couldn't you just raise teacher pay for the exact same cost as getting rid of their income taxes? Seems like that would be more popular than giving them an arbitrary exemption.
I'm happy to see that CAP, Economic Policy Institute, Roosevelt Institute, and Center for Budget and Policy Priorities aren't publicly supporting this. Hopefully that's a clear sign that this isn't being taken seriously.
It's one thing to support this nonsense if you're a neoliberal who doesn't really want to expand the role of government very much, but why is it that Bernie Sanders, the Institute for Policy Studies and Demos are supporting this nonsense? Utterly embarrassing.
He openly said that M4A would require some tax increases on the middle class during his campaigns. I respected and supported him partly because of that? WTF is this, lmfao.
Bernie? Public sector unions? Pro-social security lobby? Institute for Policy Studies? Did none of these people give even a second of thought to the implications this bill would have for other policy priorities? C'mon.
Huge, huge bummer. This is one of the most promising technologies I've ever covered.
He literally said that he supported it. It's perfectly accurate to say that he "went along" with it. Maybe Walz secretly didn't support it but there's no way of knowing that.
Has she ever apologized for staying in the primary well after it was clear she had no chance? To be clear, this is very old news and I don't think anybody should be apologizing but the idea that Sanders' supporters have something to apologize for has been bullshit from day one.
Shouldn't be rare to see this said by a US senator
I'm very YIMBY for housing but mostly NIMBY for data centers and other large industrial projects.
One of the lessons of the Iran war is that it was a huge mistake not to even try to put any of the Iraq war architects in prison. We shouldn’t make it again.
Also, he has an Israeli AIPAC affiliated stepbrother who moved back to Maine just to campaign for him! Again, very weird stuff going on but he's not a Nazi.
The tattoo is a huge red herring compared to the other weird stuff going on. His work for blackwater and the podcast thing are a lot more disturbing, and people would probably be taking them more seriously if the response to the tattoo was a little more proportionate.
Graham Platner has serious problems that are worth discussing but people aren't doing themselves any favors when they claim he's a Nazi or even outright lie like this. Reign in the hysteria, do some research so that you get an accurate read on him and stop focusing on the tattoo.
This deserves a lot more attention.
I'm not really sure how people square the idea that he's an actual Nazi with his reddit posts from a few years ago. People have forgotten but before the tattoo he received controversy for calling himself a communist. He was also very supportive of Black Lives Matter.
His reddit posts from a few years ago make it really hard for me to believe that he's a Nazi or even right leaning in any meaningful way but they also show that he's generally not averse to political extremism, which is probably why this keeps happening.
We are the dumbest country my God
He's less supportive than most Democratic senators. He voted for the Bernie Sanders arms sales resolution in late 2024 even though a majority didn't support it. He's definitely not Rashida Tlaib but he isn't Chuck Schumer either.
Regardless of how you feel about this, it's definitely politically dangerous to put too much emphasis on the potential danger to servicemen. If casualties are minimal (and they have been so far), then it's easier for Trump to claim a costless victory.
Each one of those three missiles costs 33% more than the annual budget of the national park where I work.
John Gai carried his sick father to a nearby clinic in a wheelbarrow, but he died from cholera on the way.
Gai then pushed the wheelbarrow for hours through the camp to take him to the cemetery: “Nobody should have to carry a dead body among the living.”
