Not everyone can march and protest the craziness in the USA, Ukraine, Alberta, or elsewhere. However, most of us can buy a song for digital download. Let's send "The Land of Confusion" to No. 1 to highlight being fed up with impotent and dangerous leaders.

Nicole Todd presenting on yet another decline in harbour #porpoise. Every poster and talk on them at #ECSconference2025 has been detailing declines in abundance and distribution, or dropping body condition. Houston, we have a problem. #RedAlert

Ana Cañadas in front of a slide detailing the strengths of her multiple data source modelling approach

Super complex but important work by @anacanadas.bsky.social who modelled Mediterranean cetacean abundance using multiple data sources - estimates of total sperm whale abundance had no upper ci above 5.5k supporting recent 'Endangered' IUCN listing doi.org/10.2305/IUCN... #ECSconference2025 🧪🐋🦑

At the #ECSconference2025 they lured us out of the poster session with a live portuguese "murinheira", like the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Brilliant!

Anna Selbmann brilliantly presents her work on behavioural responses of killer whales to pilot whale sounds in the style of an Asterix comic! Who says science can't be fun? #ECS2025 (p.s. oh yeah, you might want to know that killer whales avoid pilot whale sounds!)

A lot of prey does the vertical migration thing, so they go deeper at the full moon. And various ocean cycles are driven by solar behaviour. So the connection is indirect, but it's there!

It's a whale conference. Although lunar cycles have featured as a contributing factor to variability in whale distribution and behaviour. Solar cycles have also been hinted at as contributing to inter-decadal variability as well. You'd feel right at home!
