Not everyone can march and protest the craziness in the USA, Ukraine, Alberta, or elsewhere. However, most of us can buy a song for digital download. Let's send "The Land of Confusion" to No. 1 to highlight being fed up with impotent and dangerous leaders.

Hey Europe -- Donald Trump opened 84% of one marine protected area to longlines and purse seines -- but you allow bottom trawling in almost all of your protected areas
Now the #ECSconference2025 is over and all those marine mammal folks with binoculars have gone home, I'll reveal that I could see the venue from my shower...
#ECSconference2025 plugs the International Day of the Baltic Harbour Porpoise. Join us!
An excellent plenary by Joe Roman on the myriad values of whales to human society and global ocean and climate health! #ECSconference2025
Nicole Todd presenting on yet another decline in harbour #porpoise. Every poster and talk on them at #ECSconference2025 has been detailing declines in abundance and distribution, or dropping body condition. Houston, we have a problem. #RedAlert
Joe Roman discussing the inherent value of marine stewardship at the #ECSconference2025
Enough said by Joe Roman #ECSconference2025 #WorstJobInScience
Super complex but important work by @anacanadas.bsky.social who modelled Mediterranean cetacean abundance using multiple data sources - estimates of total sperm whale abundance had no upper ci above 5.5k supporting recent 'Endangered' IUCN listing doi.org/10.2305/IUCN... #ECSconference2025 🧪🐋🦑
Last day of #ECSconference2025 begins with Keynote Joe Roman discussing Lifting Baselines: Marine Mammal Recovery, Ecological Function, and the Consequences of Conservation Success
. @wild-devs.bsky.social - excellent talk at the #ECSconferrnce2025! Important work linking reproductive potential to declining ecosystem quality.

At the #ECSconference2025 they lured us out of the poster session with a live portuguese "murinheira", like the Pied Piper of Hamelin. Brilliant!
Bruno Diaz-Lopez presents evidence that male bottlenose dolphins show social aging, becoming less central in their social networks as they age... #ECSconference2025 🦑🐋
Anna Selbmann brilliantly presents her work on behavioural responses of killer whales to pilot whale sounds in the style of an Asterix comic! Who says science can't be fun? #ECS2025 (p.s. oh yeah, you might want to know that killer whales avoid pilot whale sounds!)
Some young upstart called Hal Whitehead is discussing society (the concept of 'we-ness') in sperm whales at the #ECS2025
Hui presentem el pòster:
“Site fidelity of Risso’s dolphins along an underwater canyon system”, amb resultats molt prometedors.
Seguim treballant per conèixer i protegir els cetacis del nostre mar.

For those at #ECS2025, don't miss @wild-devs.bsky.social talk on reproductive hormones in fin whales and Alexandra's talk on proteomics in pilot whales this morning.
Cristina Brito discusses conservation and social aspects whaling and other human use and associations with marine mammals through the context of Blue Humanities at the #ECS2025.
A lot of prey does the vertical migration thing, so they go deeper at the full moon. And various ocean cycles are driven by solar behaviour. So the connection is indirect, but it's there!
It's a whale conference. Although lunar cycles have featured as a contributing factor to variability in whale distribution and behaviour. Solar cycles have also been hinted at as contributing to inter-decadal variability as well. You'd feel right at home!
The indomitable Mark Simmonds holds court for the Human Interaction and Climate Change session at the #ECS2025
Thanks for the great talk at #ECS2025 @lrendell.bsky.social!
Ah. The wonders of quickly selecting tags on the small phone screen. Thanks for letting me know!
Smaller odontogenic contribute to carbon fixing too - sometimes more than the larger whales in certain areas. #ECS2025
Pelagis whales fix approx. 20kt carbon per year. Clearly a sizable contribution to fending off #ClimateChange. #ECS2025
Arianna Azzellino presenting BLUESCAPE, a project to estimate cetacean-driven carbon dynamics in the Pelagos Sanctuary, among other things. #ECS2025
