The world’s largest collection of curated eye imaging and linked clinical data is expanding across the country, in an initiative led out of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and @ucleye.bsky.social.
A team led by @ucleye.bsky.social scientists has identified a key protein that triggers diabetic retinopathy – a condition caused by high blood sugar damaging the retina’s blood vessels and a leading cause of sight loss among working-age adults.
An AI system can identify patients who are being under-treated or over-treated for sight-threatening macular disease. Validated at two UK eye centres, the AI could help transform NHS monitoring.
