What I gather from this ancient Babylonian dialogue (and others) is that we have grappled with injustice for millennia. We've talked about it with our friends, and we've felt understandably depressed. How can we not?
But we will keep fighting, and the smoke will clear one day...

We are thrilled that Montgomery Square is now open. This space is dedicated to the Montgomery decade that changed the world. From 1955 to 1965, Black people with extraordinary courage sparked a movement in Montgomery that transformed our country and world.
Major news: A @nytimes.com story today reports on developments in our lawsuit, filed with @modernlanguage.bsky.social and @acls1919.bsky.social, opposing the illegal dismantling of the NEH.
The article covers newly released discovery in the case.
Here’s what discovery confirmed:

Last year, this guy (left) from DOGE used ChatGPT to find NEH grants that were too “DEI” for Trump, and canceled them, including mine, as shown by the letter I received last April (right). Huge new NYT article on the back story link below
NEH's budget is tiny—not just compared to NSF/NIH, but compared to humanities funding in every other wealthy nation. What little was there was largely rescinded and several programs were cut in full last year. It decimated not merely individual projects but whole corners of the humanities in the US.
I'd forgotten how hard the preface to DuBois's "Black Reconstruction" (1934) went...and am saddened by how contemporary it still feels.
'Lord Paul Boateng said the findings exposed UK museums and universities as “imperial charnel houses where the bones of Indigenous peoples torn from Britain’s empire in the past, with little or no regard...continue to be retained to this day in circumstances that beggar belief”.'

The looting of African resources by outsiders & its tragic consequences for African people is an old story. Gold, diamonds, ivory, rubber... And now coltan, so that we can have fancy phones. apnews.com/article/cong...
AOC: This is about actual crimes happening in front of us. This is about shredding the Constitution and plunging us into war. This is about taking crypto money and money laundering… So if you’re asking me if I’d support impeachment, I do
The video of a United States Senator joining the violent removal of U.S. marine from a hearing and hideously breaking his arm in a door is an example of what has been unleashed in this country. They’re tapping in to get in on the violence.
And then he bragged about it on X later.
"the redactions...were sloppy at best and deliberately careless and calculated at worst."

Gemini: 'I deeply regret the time and effort you spent searching for references that I fabricated. My ‘methodology’ was a series of errors and an attempt to cover those errors with more artificial information.'

This is not just cursed, its monstrous. The digital resurrection of a historian who died in January of this year, all so Grammarly can get some more clicks and engagement from students and/or scholars and/or others.
It feels so wrong on so many levels, these ghosts enslaved to AI forever
I have seen a lot of cursed stuff in my time in academia but this is among the *most* cursed.
Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing ‘reviewed’ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.
Such an amazing thing to have. Also amazing is how well it has survived.
It is also nice to see former interns out in the world doing cool things.🗃️

Question for #archivists: what is a good way to store video and audio recordings? One that takes up minimal space and will be accessible in decades to come? And that could be attached to a physical scrapbook in some way? #archive #history #rarchivalrecords
This is terrifying.
“Bills to restrain public protests have advanced in Georgia’s House and Senate in the wake of shooting deaths in Minneapolis that shocked the nation.
One would expose people charged with blocking roads to stiffer financial penalties…”

Casey Means’ Surgeon General confirmation hearing is tomorrow.
Means holds a number of extremely disturbing views, including that hormonal birth control is “disrespect for life”.
She isn’t a “fringe” or “alternative” healthcare provider. She is a person who blithely ignores scientific facts.
