Book cover for Black Notes: Young Black Voices, edited by Althea Prince (Insomniac Press), with a cherry-red hand upraised in a fist similar to a black power salute, but holding a fountain pen. As far as I can tell, this book is out of print.

Book cover for A House Unsettled by Trynne Delaney (Annick Press), with a bouquet of roses rising out of a skull. With her dadโ€™s incarceration, escalating fights with her mom, and an overbearing stepdad sheโ€™s not sure she can trust, Asha is desperate for the fresh start promised by a move to the country. Her great aunt Aggieโ€™s crumbling, pest-ridden house isnโ€™t exactly what she had in mind, but the immediate connection she makes with her new neighbor Cole seems like a good sign. Soon, though, Ashaโ€™s optimism is shadowed by strange and disturbing occurrences within the old houseโ€™s walls: footsteps stalking the halls; a persistent chill; cold hands around her neck in the middle of the night . . . Fearing for her loved onesโ€™ safetyโ€“and her ownโ€“Asha seeks out the source of these terrifying incidents and uncovers secrets from the past that connect her and Coleโ€™s families and reach into the present. But as tensions with her mom and stepdad rise and Cole withdraws, Asha is left alone to try and break the cycle of violence that holds them all in its haunting grip. https://www.annickpress.com/Books/A/A-House-Unsettled

Panel Description from WorldCon 2025
Strong Woman Lead =/= LGBTQIA=
Tagged Culture/DEI
Room 420-422 9-10am
Have you ever walked into a bookshop and asked for books with strong women leads? Perhaps you've requested that love not be a major plot point? Has the staff excitedly passed you half a dozen books that, though good, have a bit of a repeating theme? Here we ask the question: Why do authors/bookshops assume the only way to have a strong woman lead is to make them gay with a woman love interest and prevent men characters from rising over the background? Isn't it possibly to have a book with strong women and men characters in it and not have them fall in love?

WorldCon panels dropped and I guess they've decided to jump on the right wing's train of strawmen about the gay agenda? Please, if anyone in their life has encountered a bookstore giving them half a dozen sapphic recs with 'strong women leads' let me know so I can shop there

"can i venmo u?" the way that I have to remind americans that venmo is exclusively a u.s. thing and people outside the u.s. have literally no way of using it and sometimes have no need of an app of that nature

I had two dreams where I was reading one of my short stories in front of a crowd. Normally when I read in dreams, I canโ€™t make out anything on the page, but this time I was reading full excerpts. The stories donโ€™t exist in real life.
