The record for most nominating ballots in a year was 2016, when 4,032 people put in a nominating ballot.

We have two weeks to convince 3,000 more people to nominate so that @laworldcon.bsky.social breaks that record.

LETS GET TO IT!

Last year, there were a total of 1,338 nominating ballots cast.

In last year's Hugo shortlist, there were ten works that missed making the ballot by two votes or fewer. Several might have made the ballot with one more vote

Your Hugo nominating ballot can have a big impact for the creators you love

Space Shuttle Challenger Memorial in Little Tokyo

The Space Shuttle Challenger Monument in Los Angeles honors the seven astronauts who died in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.

Dedicated in 1990, it features a 1/10-scale replica of the shuttle on a granite pedestal with plaques remembering astronaut Ellison S. Onizuka and the crew.

Storefront of the Time Travel Mart

Buck Rogers went to the 25th Century, and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt. Want some souvenirs from other eras? Los Angeles' Time Travel Mart offers that, and supports literacy-based charity.

Once again weirdly delighted that somehow I've developed a real side gig being a DJ for the nerds.

(And yes, I'll be doing a dance at this year's Worldcon as well)

#1 - And the best reason to attend LAcon V, the 84th World Science Fiction Convention is ...

THE PEOPLE.

It's a gathering place for passionate creative, enthusiastic, wonderfully nerdy humans who bond over a love of genre and story.

Hope we'll see you there!

John Scalzi in the centre of a dance party. The dance floor is lit up with green and pink lights. Everyone looks caught in the moment, though it is not sedate or formal.

#5 - The World Science Fiction Convention is known for its very restrained and dignified formal dances.
