Page 1 of the Gold Shading tutorial, featuring a reference image of Kulve Taroth from Monster Hunter! Step 1: Recolor the lineart to a dark red and set an orange-yellow color for the base gold color. Step 2: On a clipping mask layer, add a subtle gradient in a darker orange color. Step 3: On a clipping mask layer set to multiply and ~80% opacity, use a hard brush to block in the shading color. Use a saturated dark red to accentuate the colors in the shadows. Step 4: Using a combination of the blend tool (NOT the blur tool), layer brush strokes, and the eraser, soften some of the edges of the shading layer and add little details such as scratches and texture.

Step 6: Using a combination of the blend tool (NOT the blur tool), layer brush strokes, and the eraser, soften some of the edges of the lighting layer and add little details such as scratches and texture. Step 7: On a clipping mask layer set to Overlay and ~50% opacity, use a soft airbrush to add in a bright orange color to certain parts of the gold. Use a saturated dark red to accentuate the colors in the shadows. Step 8: Add some finishing touches. Add more scratches, deepen the color contrast, airbrush different colors on overlay or hard light, and recolor the lineart. And you're done!
