As I had said all offseason, the Giants built this roster in a way that was particularly susceptible to a second-half collapse. Let’s hope the FO learned their lesson.

Wasn't able to watch much tonight, looks like Teng did alright. Was able to push through 5 despite more balls in play than whiffs, called strikes, or fouled balls. 38% FB rate vs a bad offense will do that

Gilbert’s name value is certainly above where he’s at as a player, but where he’s at is fine. It’s a platoon bat with real potential to do above-average damage strongside. His sprays will limit his average but he won’t strike out a ton. I’d rather give him a shot than McCray.

With Whisenhunt and Gilbert up, I’m not seeing any newly R5 eligible guys that the Giants will have to add. Some will have good cases. They should probably add Roxby, who was eligible last offseason. But no one who they 100% have to. Which is a weird place to be!

If the Giants want any chance at keeping their postseason hopes alive, they’re probably going to have to sweep the Nationals. Because that 16-game stretch after this series ends is touuuuuugh.

Schmitt generated trade interest last offseason, and the upcoming hitter FA class is relatively weak. Teams with 3B need could be aggressive in trades. Say, if the Phillies decide to move on from Bohm, that’s one trade matchup the Giants could explore.

Schmitt is in an awkward spot with the Giants. Poor fit at 2B defensively, while Chapman and Adames are under club control longer than him and they don’t take off days. Bat is ~avg give or take occasional power spurts. They like him as a bench bat, and certainly don’t have to move him. But…

The difference in swing length looks subtle to me. It’s a little lower, maybe on account of flattening the attack angle to reach upper-zone fastballs, but shouldn’t account for a 1.4 MPH loss.

Heliot Ramos is only ISOing .159 over his last 738 PA (since the 2024 ASG). The xSLG has been straddling the league average line for the majority of the season, and is 49th percentile on the whole.

Potentially of note: his bat speed has dipped from 75.2 MPH in 2024 to 73.8 MPH in 2025.

Encarnacion has a little less than a week remaining on his rehab assignment. He smoked a double into the RCF gap and hit a loud homer tonight, but those are just his second and third XBH since starting his rehab assignment.

LRT: Encarnacion and Luciano have both remained in the game through 6 innings for the River Cats. So it wouldn’t appear the Giants are planning a red eye from New Mexico to replace Flores, at the moment.

Robbie Ray's FB sat 92.3 MPH through 5 today, down 1.3 MPH from his season average. A couple starts ago he sat 92.2 MPH. He's up to 134 innings on the season now having thrown 34.0 between 23-24. With their sights set on 2026 now, wonder if they'll start to wind him down around the 150 inning mark
