[As an asides, Greg's last name has been withheld from these posts to protect him from retaliation by security at his facility, per his cousin Patty's request. Yes, it does happen and yes, she is very concerned for that happening to him, so please understand why only first names were used]
My dad was a Navy vet and I'd hate to imagine him being in Greg's position. Being a Navy brat, I know how much information is in those military service records and from personal experience how easily it is for your identity to be stolen. Gah!
I told Patty, who's an Orlando resident, to contact the governor's office as well as her state representatives, like @annaforflorida.bsky.social , and I hope she does. In the meantime, I had to vent about this because it's so frustrating hearing stories like this all the time.
No matter how you feel about the incarcerated, everyone should agree that an older man who is an US Air Force veteran should NOT have his personal ID info in his military service records placed in a position to have his identity stolen due to ineptitude & incompetence by a State of Florida employee.
As a result, what should have been given to Greg personally due to the sensitive info inside it (his SSN and other personal ID info) was placed in an unsecured database that could be hacked.
This is absolutely wrong and according to Florida and Federal law should NEVER have happened.
It seems that at DeSoto Annex, their mailroom is defying State rules and regulations as well as Federal law by denying Greg to receive his military service records from the National Archives and the VA. Instead of giving to him, they have sent it to a scanned mail company owned by Securus/Jpay.
So as apart of my work, I hear from the incarcerated & their families about problems they deal with the prison system. One sweet older lady named Patty mentioned to me recently that her cousin Greg was having a hard time getting DeSoto CI Annex's mailroom to give him some legal documents he ordered.
