So many of my colleagues laughed at me for saying this… but… a few colleagues didn’t… and I think they saved a LOT of lives in the first few years.

We need clarity on big pharma’s tax breaks | Letters Letters: Pharmaceutical giants like GSK should be more transparent about the generous tax breaks they get from the UK government, says Mike Lewis

Corporate lobbyists have no shame.

The UK Government could ‘move up the value chain’ and establish well funded public centres that develop drugs up to the point at which production is scaled up for patients.

The Global South needs between $310 billion and $365 billion in adaptation finance per year by 2035, whereas adaptation finance from rich countries was only $26 billion in 2023.

CO₂ removal will cost >$1000 billion per year, and will mainly benefit the Global South. Who's gonna pay that? No one.

A Qn for those living in the USA.

Trump seems to want to promote violence so that he can deploy the army.

As starving people are likely to steal food and / or resort to violence, could this be the goal of stopping SNAP? If so, can Democrat Governors and Mayors step in with food aid?

We can find suitable land with sunlight, water, and nutrients to grow plants, wait years to harvest the biomass and burn it for energy, hope to capture the CO₂ with carbon capture and storage technology, and find a suitable spot to bury the CO₂ permanently.

OR we can use solar panels.

Global GHG emissions showing a flat line at about 15MtCO2eq, where countries submitted, with a slight decline in emissions to 2035. A rising line from 35 to 55MtCO2eq shows global emissions, and the commitments at the last round of NDCs leading to flattish emissions.

Where are we on climate action?

The bottom black line is countries that submitted new commitments (on time), the dotted line is global emissions. Blue shading are the commitments.

🚨 The news-media is utterly failing to cover these momentous scientific findings.

The public is not being informed of the danger posed.

The UK chief scientist Dame Angela McLean just highlighted this as an issue of national security - why are no news outlets covering it ?!? 🤯

The UK COVID inquiry is valuable simply in documenting the failures of the pandemic.

Establishing for the historical record that the public health and infection control bodies that grabbed control over COVID decision-making were negligent and out of their depth will make next steps easier.

deeply wild clip of a fossil fuel economist on norway's state broadcaster claiming

- Extreme weather is not a threat to human welfare
- We need to dig up Norwegian oil and gas to help 'poor Africans in huts' get rid of polluting cooking fuels

This is a genuine problem with UK politics and how it's covered:

The bizarre belief that having achieved power and influence at some point is irrefutable, cast-iron proof that you *deserve* it and should keep it in some form, no matter how wildly incompetent you have shown yourself to be

Our military is being paid by an anonymous donor.

Our WH East Wing was demolished for a ballroom - paid for by donors.

These aren’t acts of benevolence or patriotism.

This is the oligarchy assuming control, insidiously becoming part of how we function.

Every American should reject it.

"Let's say a particular Direct Air Capture plant will remove 4000 tonnes of CO2, if we look at that DAC plant as a time machine that takes us back to an atmosphere we had in the past, its an atmosphere that we has 3 seconds ago... it's very ineffectual" - Prof. @davidho.bsky.social

Regular reminder that people who say we should "return up nature" or go back to "living off the land" are essentially saying "I think 90% of existing humans should die, but I still want to come across as morally superior"

Industrial agriculture is VERY important, basically

A surprise bonus from COVID-19 vaccines: bolstering cancer treatment Patients who got shots of mRNA before starting a type of cancer immunotherapy lived much longer

mRNA vaccines seem to work synergistically w/ cancer immunotherapy.

In patients, the vaccine acts like a siren that triggers the release of immune signaling proteins, instructing the immune system to attack tumors.

We need to funding for mRNA based therapeutics.

Accelerated glacier melt is threatening Europe's villages, rivers and economies Temperatures in Europe are increasing at twice the average global rate. As glaciers in the Swiss Alps disappear, Europe's biggest rivers are losing a crucial source of their summer water flow.

"the Rhone isn't the only river whose source is a glacier - the Rhine, the Danube, the Po - the continent's biggest rivers all start here. And when these glaciers are gone, Farinotti says, these rivers will be forever altered."
