Scrapping jury trials would undermine a foundational principle of British justice: the right to have your case heard by fellow citizens.
We need investment and reform to tackle court backlogs, not the abolition of key legal safeguards.
This is a great initiative.
At a time when far right politics is on the rise, it's more important than ever that we unite to reject narratives of division and racism.

Scrapping most jury trials will only weaken our democracy.
These plans must be binned in full.
Billionaire wealth keeps piling up. Everyone else is left with less and less.
With this mountain of pasta, I show why we need to tax the Billionaires.
Trump's escalating threats against Venezuela are the latest demonstration of the total contempt in which he holds international law.
His bogus, paper-thin justifications for US military aggression should be called out for what they are: a fig-leaf for illegal regime change.

Graphic shows Andy McDonald MP in Commons overlaid with text which reads: When Keir Starmer asked me to work with our trades unions to develop a programme for the biggest uplift in workersβ rights and protections in a generation, I did exactly as I was asked and we produced the New Deal for Working People.Β That committed the party to, amongst other things, day one rights for all workers, including basic rights of protection against unfair dismissal.Β Our manifesto was clear: Labour will deliver day one rights.Β The plans announced today to merely reduce the qualifying period for unfair dismissal, from two years to six months is a complete betrayal. We cannot support that halfway measure. This is a wrong-headed move and I will campaign to have this concession reversed.

Any dilution to the Employment Rights Bill is an attack on workers.
Labour must commit to passing this Bill in full instead of pandering to its detractors in the Lords.
The scrapping of the two child cap was a major win for campaigners and the labour movement, and vindicates the MPs who voted against it.
But without a radical overhaul of the economy, living standards will stagnate.
Just be Labour!
John McDonnell MP sets out his thoughts on todayβs Budget. The wave of relief that swept over the Parliamentary Labour Party was palpable when they heard the Chancellor confirm that the two child cap was at last to be scrapped. This is a huge victory for all those Labour MPs andβ¦
βThe Chancellorβs decision to abolish the two-child benefit cap is a welcome decision and a clear vindication for the Labour MPs who were suspended last year for voting to scrap it. Meanwhile, the announcement of the freezing of train fares as well as some modest redistributive tax measures are positive steps. However, with the Government sticking to an unnecessarily restrictive and inflexible fiscal framework, threatening to cut support for welfare recipients and refusing to introduce a wealth tax, alongside existing commitments to hike military spending, itβs clear our public services will continue to be underfunded and most people will still suffer from declining living standards. Ultimately, only a complete overhaul of the British economy will beat Reform and deliver real change for the people Labour was founded to represent.β

Over 100 organisations have joined Labour MPs, Councillors and Members in urging the Chancellor to do the right thing and scrap this cruel Tory policy.
Labour members are right.
Mahmoodβs proposals shamelessly attack asylum seekers and should be withdrawn immediately.

This #TransgenderDayOfRememberance, we remember the over 280 trans people killed globally this year and the many more lost to suicide.
They deserved to live safely, without fear, and to be fully who they are.
May their memories move us to keep fighting for a world where all trans people are free.
The EHRCβs draft guidance is an exclusionary attack on the rights of trans people to engage in public life.
We urge all Labour MPs to tell Ministers that the guidance as it stands is unacceptable.

Labour adopting anti-refugee rhetoric risks emboldening Reform to promote even more racist and radical measures against migrant communities.
The real cause of deprivation in communities across the UK is not people seeking asylum, but billionaire elites who defend their power by seeking to divide the working class.
