It only became "cancel culture" when powerful abusers started having established careers momentarily inconvenienced by revelations of what they'd done.

I get asked to show up to book clubs, online and offline. Here is why from now on the answer is always "no." If you think this might have something to do with "AI" ruining yet another thing for everyone, you're absolutely 100% correct.

I have edited some very good reporters who were also SPECTACULARLY BAD writers and let me tell you I would still one million billion times rather spend the time to translate their garble into English than trust an LLM to accurately report the news

"How can you oppose war when Khamenei was evil?"
Simple. If you killed Donald Trump by nuking Washington DC, I would not mourn Trump but I'd still say you're an evil war criminal who belongs in the Hague. It's really not hard.
There is no marketing I'm more susceptible to these days than any company saying they don't use generative AI in their projects. I'm a sitting duck for that promise even if they're selling graham crackers or masking tape.

The more I read about what happened at the BAFTAs, the more clear it becomes that everyone involved was set up to be victimized by the awards and the BBC. The racism is matched only by the ableism.

My cousin worked a season at the Sonnenalp hotel in Vail and came home mostly having learned to loathe rich people. Everyone got stolen Sonnenalp cups and saucers for Christmas that year.

Now he's going down a rabbit hole. A child's day pass at Vail is $225.
Day. Pass.
Seth just looked it up -- child's annual season pass at Alyeska Resort outside Anchorage is $725. Probably middle-of-the-road, pricewise.
24.02.2026 18:40 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I have real questions about that chart. Like the fact that the "registration" cost for snowboarding is approximately the cost of a single lift ticket at a major resort.

Helping my daughter's class get costumed for their production of Peter Pan. A Lost Boy comes up to me, stroking the fur hat they brought from home.
Them: "Don't worry. It was humanely harvested."
Me: "Kid, I'm from Alaska. We don't judge. I have a coat made out of seals."
Them: (Backs slowly away)
In the video of Trump talking to the US men's hockey team, when he says "I must tell you, we're going to have to bring the women's team, you do know that" as a joke about how annoying it is to have women around, the most painful part for me, are all the hockey players laughing. Actually laughing.

It would be an interesting historical hunt to find examples where making people deliberately ignorant about any particular topic actually caused an improvement in personal or social well-being.
The typical result is unexpected bad outcomes (cuz they're ignorant) and willful abuse of others (ditto).

Gotta have a bunch of these on the walls.

Seth: "So they get more points for doing jumps later in the program?"
Me: "Idk."
Seth: "That's why they have the clock?"
