Additionally, since the values are on an overlay layer, you can change the opacity of the layer to make the values as intense as you'd like.

A gradient map allows me full control over the colors of my shadows, highlights, midtones, and everything in between. I can make my values as saturated or muted as I want to, as light or as dark as I want, etc etc. (3/4)

Instead, I do all of my values in grayscale using 50% gray as my base tone. Once I'm done, I merge the values into one layer, set that layer to "overlay", and create a gradient map on the grayscale layer (I duplicate it just in case I make any mistakes on the layer I'm using). (2/4)

The answer (for me) is gradient maps!!
Recoloring grayscale values using overlays of other colors always end up too muddy for me, or the color combos just don't have enough range of hue and value for my liking. (1/4)

I'm itching to commission people to draw my revamped fursona design, but I have no money 💔
I might seek out art trades in the future, but my relationship with art is currently shaky and I am reluctant to take on comms/trades that aren't quick n dirty

I redesigned my fursona for the first time in 5 years!!
I still really love their old design and am attached to them, but I am very proud of this new design. It signifies my growth as a person over the last 5 years :D

A sketchbook spread, drawings done on a train with colored pencils and a black gel pen. There is a colored Dagestan landscape (just a field with cows and blue mountains in the background), and a sketch with a stranger sleeping on a train bed. There are also plants taped on those pages, and a little spider exoskeleton that i found, also taped to the page.

There is an eagle feather taped on a page (not a big one) and a couple of little plants. I didn't have a lot of time drawing there, and i think climbing this mountain on the left page (around 1750m) was exactly where i hurt my knee a bit during the expedition. I stayed at the top for a bit to draw what i see, instead of searching for ammonites. Loved the change of the air higher in the mountains. This was also my first time being in the mountain area.

drawings from a week long paleo expedition to Dagestan in may, done right on the trip. sometimes messy when it was cold and rainy, but i won't correct it. i think it's cool to leave it just the way it was done, and not retouch it after.
