A pink-blooming eastern swamp milkweed in a sunny meadow with bushes and short trees behind it.

Some manner of Eupatorium, maybe round-leaved, blooming with delicate little white flowers.

Way down among numerous more aggressive plants, a Eupatorium perfoliatum or common boneset with its distinctively textured leaves is growing.

I went on a #nativeplants seed reconnaissance walk. Status:
- Asclepias incarnata var. pulchra has mature plants flowering, no seeds yet
- Baptisia tinctora has lots of seeds but almost entirely still green pods
- There are so many Eupatorium sp. 🤩

Yeah, I had a Swedish Flower Rooster. I haven't considered a guard llama, I was looking at guard dogs since I just have a tiny Dachshund.

I just found the other milkweed species native to my area! This is Asclepias fascicularis (narrowleaf milkweed). I'm coming back this fall to check for seed pods...

Yeah, this is round 2 for me. The first 8 got eaten by a fox earlier this year.

Awesome! I had 8 chickens get eaten by a fox earlier this year, so this round I beefed up security.

A trench with fencing in it to prevent predators from digging under the fence to get to chickens.

Wild bergamot from below. Every year I try to capture a few "from below" shots. It gives a different perspective from what we usually see, and it sure looks great on these partly cloudy days!
