Made a variation on a Fitzgerald cocktail which is a sweet daiquiri with gin and lemon and a dash of Angostura. Mine uses the 3:2:1 ratio and falernum instead of simple syrup. Estrea mist gin. Overall really really nice.

The cats are still pretty skeptical of the baby but they are having fun exploring her stuff.

Reminds me of a July fourth several years back where we were in DC. Figured it would be crazy packed but not really. Nice hotel near the mall. Reasonably priced. Walked a few blocks for the fireworks… epically the worst ever. Some pompous jerk moved the launch site so he could have tanks.

If I get the time this weekend I’m going to smoke the yogurt I’m dallopping on it and maybe get some pickled peppers and onions…

I’m worried about domestic infant adoption. If the only reason my kid is a citizen is that they were born in the US am I going to have ICE demanding the bio parent’s citizenship papers?

If birthright citizenship is in question, adoptive parents presumably will have to prove a birth parent’s citizenship status. That feels like a new burden and thus standing, for a nationwide class. And an affirmation of the plain meaning of the 14th amendment seems the clear remedy. #legalsky ?

A simple long drink. 1oz Worthy Park Overproof, 1/2 lime juiced and she’ll added to the glass, fill glass with ice cubes and top with 1/2 a small can of San Pellegrino Limonata. Give it a little stir with a bar spoon and enjoy.

He’s struggling to find the three hours an outing it takes to fix his fake hair. After the photo last term with the wind blowing his combover that hat is pinned on to survive a hurricane.

Big week. Had my first colonoscopy (because it was time and we need to #outliveDJT). Then we got a call we’ve been waiting years for and suddenly we are parents of a beautiful baby girl. And then we got the other call we’ve been waiting for! Y’all we’re in the @ranchogordo.bsky.social bean club!

Might be able to do it with a mild gin and some orange flower water (a little goes a long way). Any agricole type rum would likely also work. The cane syrup is like a very rich simple. This one is really worth a try.

This one is a winner. A bit daiquiri a bit rickey nice and orangey. The Etsu orange aroma gin and the Asakura “Minerva” rhum agricole really make the drink. Serves 2…

2oz fresh oj
1.5oz fresh lime
2oz orange gin
2oz rhum agricole
1/2oz sirop de canne

Shake and serve up. Genuinely delightful!

Martinis! 2oz of the gin (an interesting Japanese gin with orange aroma but no sweetness), 3/4oz blanc vermouth. Stirred. Lemon twist.

You shouldn’t have to hope the previous generation dies off for the next to have a chance. We are not the Sith.

The thing that I have trouble forgiving is not training the next generation of leaders. If you’re pushing 80, have been in leadership for decades, and think nobody else is qualified to lead then you’ve failed at a critical part of your job.

I’m not super worried about research with immediate high value commercial applications. But that research often grows from research without immediate high value and we call that “investing” which is a core function of government that the “party of business” has no understanding of.

That’s Rancho Gordo alubia blanco beans. Soaked overnight. Sautéed garlic and shallot in olive oil. Add beans and a quart of chicken stock. Boil then simmer for a couple hours. Puréed half w/ lemon juice, sherry vinegar, a bit of cream, and plenty of salt. Soupier than I planned but delicious!

Meal prep this week for 4 lunches. Salmon in a Tuscan herby cream sauce with tomatoes and spinach. Broiled cabbage wedges with Italian herbs, balsamic drizzle, and parm. Creamy white beans with a green garlic and hazelnut gremolata. Super delicious and reasonably healthy so I can #outliveDJT

It also massively disincentivizes risk taking. Someone has to be at the bottom, so it feels like a bad idea to do something that could fail in the quarter before evaluation or the month or so of stack merging. That’s a third of the year where people are incentivized to avoid any risk.
