Those hands are Meslier's hands....
30.03.2025 15:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0One of the best dramas I have seen in years. The acting and directing are off the scale good.
18.03.2025 13:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I finished it last night - 2 things to say.
1) it is utterly brilliant
2) it is very challenging as well. I am still thinking about what it means.
Fotmob gave the man of the match award to Cooper.
How many times has Meslier had a MofM award?
that was a simple and very cheap upgrade last summer.
We would happily have taken 3 draws at kick off so all this good really.
WBA haven't lost against the top 4 so far.
Playing like that just before millwall really worries me. We just didn't look up for the fight at all
09.03.2025 16:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My parents are definitely centre right and they hate Trump with a passion.
I think his lack of grace and manners really don't play well here.
Interestingly they have warmed to Starmer over Ukraine.
Struijk and Bogle have both been part of woeful prem defences.
There are question marks about all of them.
It does - the gap is huge now.
24.02.2025 22:32 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yesterday was the 1st day I felt a warm breeze in months.
22.02.2025 14:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'd be interested in the polling soon. Reform's closeness to Trump always seemed like a Faustian bargain and Trump's appalling behaviour over Ukraine may be the devil calling in his favour.
21.02.2025 08:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is starting to look a lot like the Entente Cordiale between Britain and France in 1904 - we will give you Morocco if we get Egypt...
Russia and the USA are dividing the world into spheres of influence.
What is baffling is that under 3 points for a win, you can't draw your way to promotion. Winning 2 and losing 1 is much more valuable than drawing 3.
If we win on Monday, we go 8 clear of 3rd.
I would have liked a goalkeeper as that is the biggest upgrade we can make. Other than that I think we are fine.
If BA gets injured then I think Gnonto or Rothwell can cover the 10 role fairly well.
He played well today. He worked hard and supported attacks well.
Lovely finish to end a super move.
There was me thinking peregrine falcon!

1) french will mean early Celtic/gallic.
2) not sure how easy it is to differentiate between AS genes and Danish genes.
3) Population has shifted and changed since 1066 eg thenblack death
Leeds is fairly unusual in probably being a Celtic place name rather than the usual Anglo Saxon /Norse origins.
12.12.2024 18:07 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So 14 books - none were terrible, only 2 were disappointing. I am surprised I have read 3 books with a 19th century theme but they hung together very well. Bismarck's views were forged in 1848, and together with Disraeli he dominated the Congress of Berlin.
12.12.2024 18:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 013) D Day - a bit of a slog accounting for the period from D Day to the fall of Paris. Bottom line the allies won as they had more men and more equipment.
14 Global Crisis - Tries to link the various world crises of the 17th century. Very big but I wasn't convinced.
11) Bismarck - a survey of the key European statesmen of his age
12) after the ice - a survey of humanity in the 10,000 years after the end of the last ice age. Written 20 years ago and so inevitably dated now.
9) 1177BC - a survey of the bronze age world on the cusp of its demise
10) Echolands - a search for Boudicca
7) psychology of secrets - Andrew Gold's run in with cults and odd practices
8) the fall of Roman Britain - highlighted how different Britain was from the rest of the Roman Empire.
5) All the tea in China - the story of how tea became so important in Britain and how 1 man stole the secrets of growing tea.
6) Revolutionary Spring - Chris Clark's massive account of the 1848 revolutions
3) guest house for widows - well researched account of young women who supported ISIS
4) Big Sister, Little Sister, Red Sister - the story of the Song sisters who were close to power in China for much of the 20th century.
I've read 14 history and non fiction books in 2024. In order
1) white gold - the extraordinary story of white slavery in 17th/18th century Morocco.
2) the lion and the unicorn - the parallel lives of Disraeli and Gladstone.
The usual explanation is that w Yorks was the homeland of the Celtic kingdom of elmet. When it was defeated by that Anglo Saxons in the 7th century, it just blended into Northumbria rather than being colonised/conquered.

12.12.2024 08:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Just finished this - a brilliant introduction to the world Genghis khan was born into, to the world he created and ultimately to the legacy of the Mongols.
