The US military can take over the Strait of Hormuz. But it would require a big ground invasion and sustained occupation of Iran’s coastline (at minimum).

The straightforward reason why I, with no access to classified info, knew the US had no plan is because they didn’t position the assets to do it.

The Broadview Six is now the Broadview Four. Whether that improves the math for the federal government in Midway Blitz cases or this one remains to be seen.

Gotta love when a government agency doesn't respond to your initial email and it takes four follow ups to get an acknowledgment, then they ask what your deadline is -- which was at the top of the first email. Good grief. Then they have the gall to ask when the story is running

Kind of weird to hold a press conference then cite your privacy in refusing to ask additional questions.

This whole story is a good learning experience for media around the country, and a big hat tip to Yin/Soglin/Kubzansky for their diligence

A Skokie woman said ICE detained her for nearly 48 hours after landing at O’Hare. But is it true? A Skokie woman said ICE detained for nearly 48 hours after landing at O’Hare. Three separate law enforcement agencies say her story doesn’t add up.

A Skokie woman claimed Homeland Security detained her for nearly 2 days before she ended up in Wisconsin — an extraordinary story disputed by Feds, two sheriff’s departments and her purported employer. A big big big yikes here www.chicagotribune.com/2026/03/11/o...

The federal government knew it wrongfully arrested Henry Cordova Jaya. They violated a court order for arrests, said they were seeking his release, and nevertheless sent him to Ecuador. Our story about Homeland Security using time and jail to abuse rights

Should Chicago school board members be paid? Legislators weigh compensation ahead of historic election A new bill in the Illinois House would pave the way for school board members to receive compensation.

Illinois legislators created a school board in the form of a legislature for Chicago. Like every other school board in the state, it’s an unsalaried position. Now the politicians want to get paid. Kate Armanini with a look at the issue

Illinois orders 21 communities to remove forever chemicals from drinking water by 2029. But who will pay? Many towns cannot afford the millions of dollars needed to upgrade their water systems. That means ratepayers could end up footing the bill.

Advisory on Department of Law's Cooperation with Oversight of Its Employment Actions - Chicago Office of Inspector General The City of Chicago Office of Inspector General has published an Advisory on the Department of Law’s Cooperation with Oversight of Its Employment Actions.

Chicago’s Law Department refused to give records to the inspector general but turned them over instead to a cover FOIA from the IG. Mayor Johnson’s City Hall caught playing games with IG Deborah Witzburg — or a breakdown in competence on this matter.
