A lesson I learned from MLB player Sam Hilliard
Don't get bogged down by too many voices.
As a reporter, I tried to learn from everyone I interviewed. My personal goal was for the lessons I learned to go far beyond the stories I wrote. I loved knowing how elite people thought and acted.
A lesson I learned from Sam Hilliard, on outside voices:

You often hear pitchers talk about controlling their breathing. But you donβt have to be an elite athlete to utilize grounding techniques.

Inside Braves pitcher Spencer Striderβs year of rehab, from mental game to mechanics
To reach this moment, Strider had to stay patient and purposeful throughout this past year.
Spencer Strider sat on a training table last April. He knew he blew out.
βThis is great,β he said.
This is how he thinks. Instead of a lost season, he saw an opportunity to grow during rehab.
Inside his rehab, month by month, from mind to mechanics:

Bravesβ Austin Riley continues connection with his late mentorβs son
Over the offseason, they looked at Rileyβs swing from 2021 through 2024. Their findings were a revelation to Riley.
This winter, Austin Riley worked with Logan Brumley, the son of Austinβs late mentor, Mike Brumley. Together, Riley and Logan made an adjustment the third baseman hopes leads to a big 2025.

Ian Anderson said he's fueled by the goal of getting back to who he was in the World Series and prior to that. Anderson, if healthy, should be a lock for the roster because he's out of options and the Braves won't have Spencer Strider in the rotation on opening day.

The Dodgers spent a lot, but the Braves still love their roster
On Wednesday, Braves pitchers and catchers had their first workout. The first full-squad workout is coming Tuesday.
The Dodgers spent a ton, but the Braves say they still love their rosterβs chances.
βJust because we didnβt go out and spend a bunch of money doesnβt mean anything inside here,β Matt Olson said.

A.J. Minter began last spring by saying it was "World Series or bust" for Atlanta.
The same confidence still there?
Matt Olson chuckled before answering.
"The confidence is still there," he said. "We are not going to be making any statements."

Some folks have asked, so addressing now: The AJC is re-evaluating its podcast slate this year. They are not sure where the Braves Report, launched three years ago, will land.

Despite not adding much this winter, Braves still projected to be a top team
The computer projections still think highly of the Braves.
The Braves' lone notable addition, to this point, is Jurickson Profar. And yet, projections still love them. So, perhaps both can be true:
1. It would've been nice to see them do more (they still can)
2. They still have a great roster
Spring is here!
