Thank you so much! It felt a little scary to reveal so much so publicly, but the whole point of the book was to encourage openness rather than secrecy about things that matter.

I love people who want to save things, big things like the planet, of course, but small things, too. There is such tenderness in saving small things... (like the lone surviving apple tree in a now-vanished orchard, as in my recent middle-grade novel THE LAST APPLE TREE).

Actual rejection letter for ANNE OF GREEN GABLES: "Our readers report that they find some merit in your story, but not enough to warrant its acceptance." (From HOUSE OF DREAMS, terrific bio of L. M. Montgomery by Liz Rosenberg). #kidlit #rejections

A preorder link is live! 😊 If you would like the book and can preorder, that is a *huge* help, but if you can't, I completely get that. The best thing you can do in that case is request that your university or local library orders a copy - that helps sales, too! mcfarlandbooks.com/product/news...

One of my recent books was criticized for showing sympathy for its problematic parental characters. So I was glad when a writer friend shared this quote from Walt Whitman: "The poet judges not as a Judge, but like sunlight falling around a helpless object." Yes! #writing #kidlit

Happy Arbor Day! If you can't celebrate by planting a tree, celebrate by inhaling the fragrance of spring blossoms or admiring the green of unfurling leaves, or just whispering a word of gratitude to a neighborhood tree or two as you walk by. My book, THE LAST APPLE TREE, culminates in a school Arbor Day assembly, fitting for a book that stars a very old apple tree that is the lone survivor of a vanished orchard, and the secrets it holds in its bark and branches. . . .
