My nonfiction narratives resurrect voices from history, including antebellum Tennessee bad boys (profile photo) and their widows. My essays and quotes focus on social justice, compassion, integrity. Follow me on my path to publishing.

The most vocal Christians never mention the Beatitudes. They demand the 10 Commandments be posted in public buildings. That's Moses; not Jesus. No one demands the Beatitudes be posted anywhere.

I appreciate your use of "often" in this sentence. The Methodist Church split over the slave issue and more recently the gay issue. Hate is often easier than love, which begins with empathy. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Period. I share your frustration with "religion."

Religion CAN be harmful to kids--especially the Christian nationalists, who have hijacked the Republican party of Lincoln, the Constitution, and the religion I grew up in, which was considered "weak" because it preached love. Many pastors & Christians are protesting. I share your frustration!

πŸ’ Bible Cherry Picking
"If you choose a king, he should follow the law (commandments), read them every day and not consider himself better than others. He should not take many wives or his heart will go astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold."( Deut: 17: 14:20)

This is why Ukrainians continue to fight. It's not for buildings and square kilometers of land. It's not because they don't want a different color passport. It's so Ukrainians don't get turned into slaves and their children don't get indoctrinated.

pro-surrender = pro-imperialism and pro-slavery

russia’s ministry of education launched a cartoon for school kids about SVOlodik and NATOlik.
SVOlodik (from β€œspecial military operation”) is the β€œgood” soldier.
NATOlik is the evil NATO one.

Look at the picture "pride of the nation" camp.

So kidnapped and potentially conscripted Ukrainians are the pride of russian "nation".

Fuck.

My petty gripe of the day: Bluesky doesn't allow editing when I miss an incorrect autocorrect.

Yesterday, I posted a quote by Cherokee writer Joyce Sequichie Hifler. The title of her book of daily meditations is _A Cherokee FEAST (Not Fiesta) of Days__

β€œPity the nation that is full of beliefs and empty of religion...

Pity the nation that acclaims the bully as hero,
and that deems the glittering conqueror bountiful...

Pity the nation divided into fragments,
each fragment deeming itself a nation.”

I'm tired of far-right Christians cherry-picking scriptures that focus on hate and kings. With the intention of informing and not evangelizing, here's my cherry-pickin' verse of the day:πŸ’
"All the Lord requires of you is to do justice and to love goodness and walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8

In 1926, thousands of people died in rural Tennessee from diseases--measles, influenza, whooping cough, typhoid, and more. Only three smallpox deaths occurred . . . because vaccines were readily available. cdburr.blogspot.com/2025/03/our-...

I couldn’t make sense of descendent adoration of slave-owning ancestors, so I wrote a book similar to your intriguing bookβ€” Robert E Lee and Me. It gave me the courage to ignore Southern judgements and look for an agent. Thanks for writing unapologetic nonfiction narratives about the Confederacy.
