You don't see me on Bluesky, you only see the Haikyû fangirl part of me. I'd say earlier on the internet it was more commonplace to show yourself as a multitude, nowadays way less so... so it's harder to stay in the same fandom circles as other people, you don't see them jumping fandoms

There also is a great difference in how we communicate online now compared to years ago
We tend to over specialize or curate to only a specific fandom (when I'm sure every one is multitude). Having specific discord servers, specific side blogs.

Maybe I just totally missed the point, but the conversation was still nice to have 🤣

Yeah, I totally got it, now. Fandom life is bound to change over the years on the internet. And as you mentioned in the beginning, a lot of fandom has become transactional, with sharing fic and art at the heart of getting connection.

That's it, we found the difference, here. Of course it would be hard to maintain strictly online fandom friends, this is definitely way harder!

I find it a bit sad to not consider that fandom. This is a good part of fandom. I like that you can reach so many people on the internet, but fangirling together, making headcanons, mocking a friend's blorbo for a laugh is definitely fandom too.

But what if you watch a show with a friend, and then write some fic and your friend comment on it and then you go to the swimming pool together and you discuss the fic and the show and the possibilities? And then do an art exchange on a lazy afternoon even when no one knows how to draw properly?

I sound like a housewife loving Star Trek passing zines through snail mail. I'm not that old. (But fandom in the 90s was still a bit like that.)

This is something I cannot quite grasp because I'm too old, as fandom was not on the internet when I started being a fangirl 🤣 I turn my IRL friends into internet mutuals and vice-versa. But, fair, keeping internet mutuals when all you ever shared was a pairing 10 years ago is hard.

Or connecting with someone because you're playing a game together at a con? And then "Oh, you like that manga too? And you love karaoke?". I feel like that's 70% of my friends 🤣

So the dynamic of having fandom friends must be really different. I had fandom friends before the internet was common. Things like "my niece loves manga too, would you like to meet her?" (we were 16 and 9 yo, we're still friends,we share a few fandoms but gravitate towards different things)

Also, I guess we're from very different places! France is full of manga lovers, it is not hard to find fandom friends here. I organized a con in my village (1500 inhabitants, 90% old people) and we had 400 people attending 😂

This is the opposite of what I lived XD But I must say, I met a lot of them IRL first and connected through fandom. I've always been very involved in local manga fandom, so my experience may be very different

As an older fan, I can say it was easier to form friendships online back in the day (with newsgroups, forums or LiveJournal).

I understand online feels very different, and that writing/drawing is a way to keep the mutuals entertained. I'd say it can be a different relationship than an IRL friendship, that relies heavily on being fan of the same thing, but is it that bad?

Most of my best friends are fandom friends (heck, my wife is a fandom friend) from years ago, but the thing is, they are IRL friends. Once you've met, it doesn't matter anymore that you're not in the same fandom.

Did so many commissions at the con my fingers hurt 😭 But I found a nice add-on for my Nekoma shirt ❤️

BTW, if you see me post a drawing for you and it's traditional art, I will never mind post it to you if you feel like sharing your address in DM 😊

Happy birthday, @melliejellie.bsky.social ❤️ I'm at a con today, so it's traditional art (on playing cards)!

Honestly, I don't mind, those are honest mistakes, and sooo common. Actually, what I don't like is when a character from Tôkyô drives and has a car when the guys from bump fuck nowhere Karasuno don't. Come on. Kuroo would have a car 10 years later than Yamaguchi, it's obvious 🤣

Mine was luxurious (but brand new so it might have helped). I had a balcony and a bath, but both are so common in Japan that it's not very surprising.

In my opinion it's way less disturbing than shoes inside (!!!), pancakes for breakfast (???) and college dormitories with 2 beds in one room (😐).
