What would a robust legal framework for reproductive justice look like in the EU and globally?
On June 11th, with the Berkeley Center for Comparative Equality Law & @eui-eu.bsky.social , weβve organized a conversation with some of the leading critical legal scholars on reproductive justice.
Join us this evening for the hybrid pre-launch of our collective book on #metoo in academia.
Sexual harassment is, sadly, still pervasive and itβs much needed that academics talk about it and about what we can do collectively to make our universities safer and more equal.
More info below
Next week, in London Iβll be joining a complex and much needed conversation about sexual harassment in academia together with a wonderful group of scholars.
Join us in person or online.
March 10, 6-8pm

A huge thank you to the very patient editors of the Columbia Journal of European Law, and to all the (many!) generous colleagues who read and commented on previous drafts.
β¨Send me a DM if you like to read it!
The paper also suggests some alternative legal pathways aligned with a materialist understanding of international human rights obligations to ensure a thicker understanding of reproductive justice across the EU
13.02.2025 09:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0To a large extent, EU law protects Member Statesβ abortion laws no matter how harmful they may be, and offers legal protection only to those who have enough resources to exit discriminatory domestic health systems, even though human rights & gender equality are fundamental values of the EU.
13.02.2025 09:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The paper shows how EU economic and human rights frameworks regulating abortion keep undermining reproductive justice and entrenching intersectional inequalities.
13.02.2025 09:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Got these in the mail! π¦π So happy to see my article on EU abortion law now in the Columbia Journal of European Law.
13.02.2025 09:45 β π 7 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0The student protest movement that started in Serbia is spreading. Students in Bosnia and Montenegro also held rallies today. The common thread: anger over corruption and official impunity. A short π§΅

Below pictures from massive protests in Novi Sad, and from rallies in support of students in Paris & Amsterdam.
04.02.2025 09:43 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0In a moment in which βacross the EU- far-right parties are going mainstream, protests are criminalized, and democratic practices are breaking down, maybe the EU societies could learn something from their periphery about how to create alliances across the board and nourish direct democracy.
04.02.2025 09:43 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This level of mobilization is truly remarkable in one of the poorest countries in Europe: a country still scarred by war, nationalist paranoia, polarization & social inequalities, in which the ruling party has captured institutions β from the judiciary to the mediaβ while being entangled with mafia.
04.02.2025 09:43 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The ruling party has responded by describing students as foreign spies, by threatening them to cut scholarships and benefits, and by encouraging physical violence against protesters. So far, that has backfired.
04.02.2025 09:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Through various actions of civil disobedience students are demanding systemic economic and social changes. In real time they are showing how to build a counterhegemonic movement
04.02.2025 09:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Student groups are leaderless and democratic, with all decisions taken by studentsβ plenaries. The movement is cross-generational, and students managed to build a coalition across various sectors of the Serbian society: from teachers, university professors, healthcare professionals, and farmers.
04.02.2025 09:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For the past two months, with very limited attention by international media, and while the EU remains largely silent, university students in Serbia have been leading a nationwide, bottom-up, anti- corruption movement frontally challenging the authoritarian government.
04.02.2025 09:43 β π 29 π 9 π¬ 2 π 1An incredibly disappointing day for @tilburg-university.bsky.social as the University Board ignores its own experts, who advised that TiU suspend ties with Israeli partner universities due to the heightened risk of their participation in HR violations and failure to ensure academic freedom.
28.01.2025 16:56 β π 3 π 6 π¬ 2 π 0We are proud to recently have published the final issue of our 2024 volume, a special issue edited by Ivana Isailovic @uvalawschool.bsky.social on 'Critical approaches to EU Law'. Available here: www.tandfonline.com/toc/rtlt20/c...
21.01.2025 11:59 β π 12 π 4 π¬ 0 π 2Thank you! π€
24.01.2025 10:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Itβs part of the special issue on Critical legal approaches in EU law that I shared last week.
www.tandfonline.com/toc/rtlt20/1...
I wrote an essay on gender in political economy and EU law. It explores what this approach means for EU law, and connects EU anti-discrimination law to neoliberalism and racial capitalism.

Really important special issue: continuing the much-needed conversation about critical approaches to, and new methodological directions in, EU law scholarship
16.01.2025 14:45 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Thank you Diamond!
22.01.2025 20:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Grateful to the contributors Fernanda Nicola, Janine Silga, Annette Schrauwen, Iris Goldner Lang, Sanja BogojeviΔ, Floris de Witte, Andy Woodhouse & Giacomo Tagiuri, and the Transnational Legal Theory team for their support
16.01.2025 09:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Critical legal approaches are still very often marginalized in EU law. Our hope is that these essays can provide support for colleagues who want to explore these approaches in their research and their classrooms.
16.01.2025 09:59 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Essays explore a variety of critical methodological moves in EU law: redistributive analysis, law and political economy, Marxist and feminist approaches to law and reflections on the positionality of EU legal researchers across climate, economic, immigration and EU equality laws.
16.01.2025 09:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What, and who is EU law for?
A special issue on critical approaches to EU law that I edited has just been published, with short essays from a wonderful group of scholars.
