its even worse when they just write dedue's entire character off bc they boil him + his relationship with dimitri down to stereotype when he's way more developed a character than they give him credit for (even if the game definitely has issues when it comes to the racism surrounding him)
its a shame ppl dont really find the same drama and angst in dedue and dimitri's relationship as they do with his other ones bc the game gives u SO much to work with. more than any other relationship dimitri has aside from edelgard imo
i also think its based on a misconception that dedue doesn't really "know" dimitri as well as someone who knew him longer when i'd argue dedue knows the most, pretty explicitly. even felix doesn't get nearly the full picture compared to dedue, but bc dedue doesn't go against dimitri it gets ignored
sylvain ingrid and felix's past with him is nice messy angst that has the potential to improve as they mature but dedue literally kept that man alive for 9 whole years when he was socially isolated from basically everyone else and gave him the will to live outside just revenge its crazy
i think part of why despite being a dimitri megafan i never really gravitated towards the concept of the Faerghus Four as dimitri's current inner friend group is bc of the dedue shaped hole in the concept
