Running the Endurance Life Dorset Coast marathon this weekend can be summed up by this sign found on the coastal path - too windy to stand, so muddy you fell over again if you could, and a storm surge that meant a choice of detouring up the cliff or running through the sea. End of term #Type2Fun 🏃♀️
I don’t know if this is a subliminal statement about the state of the academic jobs market, or just some epic recycling, but I have found a good use for my #PhD!
(Fear not, it was just a draft copy)
The virtual Open Day for our Oxford PhD in environmental science is TOMORROW.
Find out more about #Geography and ILESLA ➡️https://www.geog.ox.ac.uk/news/interdisciplinary-life-and-environmental-science-landscape-award-ilesla-doctoral-training.
I'm happy to chat further, especially about #hydrology topics

Are you looking for a #PhD in #Climate, #Earth or #Environmental science? Oxford's ILESLA programme could be for you.
Its a four year funded degree meaning you get chance in the 1st year to learn essential skills and to work with potential supervisors to refine your research topic.
More skyscapes, this one from a @uniofstandrews.bsky.social workshop on “Forecasting Rare and Severe Events: Behaviour, Verification, and Judgment” - discussing shared challenges with a truly interdisciplinary group & learning about forecasting avalanches with even less data than floods! ❄️⛷️⚠️
I love a winter sunset, especially one featuring @hertfordcollege.bsky.social’s majestic crane

As an honorary Geordie this is quite amusing #GreatNorthRun #RiverTyne
p.s. if you've not heard of the UK Flood Hydrology Roadmap its a community initiative to ensure that "Society has improved hydrological information and understanding to manage flood hazard in a changing world”. www.hydrology.org.uk/Flood_Hydrol...
I would encourage anyone who works in, or with, UK Hydrology to join this @britishhydrosoc.bsky.social webinar
We'll be sharing project updates from the Flood Hydrology Roadmap and exciting news on how you can get involved

I had a really uplifting day yesterday at the UK River Summit and Festival. An eclectic gatherings of people with a range of interests and motivations, but there is space for more academics (and definitely more hydrologists) in these important conversations

Come join us for this early careers symposium!
Abstract submission closes THIS FRIDAY (June 13th).

I have recently been gifted this beautiful piece of hydrometry history (it was originally given to my grandad). Some internet sleuthing suggests it’s from ~1940 but I’d love to know if any hydrometry experts know anymore about when current meters like this would have been used?
The Predictability of Weather and Climate group at the Physics Department of the University of Oxford invites applications for an open-ended senior research position: my.corehr.com/pls/uoxrecru...
We haven’t finalised this yet as we are still welcoming new potential supervisors. For climate, earth and parts of biology/ecology You can get a good idea by looking at supervisors on our previous programme www.environmental-research.ox.ac.uk/people
I am really pleased to be leading the Climate & Earth theme of our new doctoral training programme. If you are thinking of applying for a PhD this could be for you, but be quick as the deadline is only two weeks away.
Yes sure 👍
Quite possibly the best British sporting event of the year. If you haven’t been following it you should be!
Making the most of the last few days before teaching term today and spotted some new (to me) Oxford Hydrology at Osney Lock
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. One of our MSc students has a paper in review related to this - she found the last point is key, poor interpretation and incorrect modelling could present a risk to the stability of the real estate market
